Donnie Wahlberg just gave Blue Bloods fans a major reason to keep watching (and keep hoping).
While walking the red carpet for CBS’s new police drama and Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, the actor opened up about the legacy of the beloved show and how it might live on in more ways than one. As one of the show’s treasured stars, Wahlberg knows just how passionate the Reagan family fanbase really is and he made it clear that they’re never far from his mind.
“We respect and love our fans in all our different endeavors, and this will be no different,” Wahlberg said referring to the new spinoff show. “We hope they all come along.”

The new series, Boston Blue, is set in a different city but comes from the same producers behind Blue Bloods. Fans have already started buzzing online about whether any members of the Reagan family might show up in the spinoff and let’s just say, Wahlberg certainly didn’t shut the idea down.
“Oh, I know a lot of things, but I’m not going to say it,” he told the red carpet interviewer. “I would just say that my first question when presented with this opportunity was, ‘Okay, where did we leave off with Blue Bloods? And what does that mean going forward?’ So lots of things are happening at the end of Blue Bloods and we will need updates on what’s happened since then going forward. That’s all I can say.”
Cryptic? Definitely! Promising? Absolutely.
Wahlberg also made it clear that his heart is still very much with the fans who’ve followed the Reagan family for over a decade. “Listen, I’m in a boy band. I’ve been in a boy band for 41 years. I don’t even look 41,” he joked. “I know what the fans want and I will not let them down.”
While it’s still unclear exactly how Boston Blue will connect to Blue Bloods, one thing’s for sure: Donnie Wahlberg is keeping the door wide open to any possibility. And if fans have anything to say about it, the Reagans may not be gone for long.
