Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s hit show, Yellowstone, are in for a treat as the second part of Season 5 comes out this November.
There have been a couple of developments regarding Taylor Sheridan’s hit series, Yellowstone, over the last couple of weeks. Considered as one of America’s #1 television drama series, fans were recently left with a few updates regarding Season 5 Part 2. Multiple sources have reported that this might be the end of the incredible series, leaving multiple fans upset.
However, for those who love Yellowstone dearly, there is still hope as Screenrant stated that the show has already inspired a couple of spinoffs to keep its fanbase engaged with certain storylines. But not every journey has a happy ending. So let’s quickly dive into various updates that were given by Yellowstone’s crew.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Release Date:
That’s right folks! Prepare to witness a series of episodes filled with a lot of intensity and possible war within the Dutton family. Part 1 of Season 5 aired its final episode over a year ago (January 2023).
The final episode of the show concluded with a major cliffhanger indicating a possible war involving two key members of the Dutton family, Jaime and Beth.
The initial part set the tone for what could be Yellowstone’s best season yet. The show’s first teaser was released on August 30, 2024, and didn’t reveal much.
Days later, they released a second teaser which mainly featured shots of the Dutton family house. Season 5 Part 2 will officially drop on November 10, 2024 (8 PM EST). The number of episodes in this season remains uncertain.
Why did Kevin Costner leave Yellowstone?
One thing was apparent in those teasers, Kevin Costner will not be returning as the Dutton family’s patriarch.
Costner has been working on another project called Horizon. This project already has two instalments out with a third currently being worked on. The 69-year-old actor and director revealed why he left Yellowstone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said,
I gave this thing five seasons… I was really happy to do it. And I don’t need drama. So, let’s just take that drama away, let’s take the guessing [away]. The fans have been way too good to me. And my obligation is to go on and continue to make things that mean something to them.
Now, that we’ve gotten Costner’s dilemma out of the way, Yellowstone will potentially be focusing on developments outside of John Dutton’s storyline, such as Beth and Rip’s romance.
Which member from Yellowstone’s main cast will be returning?
So far, only Kevin Costner will not be returning to the show. However, Kelly Reilly (Beth), Wes Bentley (Jaime), Luke Grimes (Kayce), and Kelsey Asbille (Monica) will be returning as the show’s main cast.
Paramount had every intention to continue working with Costner. However, they had to let the actor go despite making multiple efforts to fit into his schedule. According to GQ, they said,
While we had hoped that we would continue working with him, unfortunately, we could not find a window that worked for him, all the other talent, and our production needs in order to move forward together. We respect that Kevin has prioritized his new film series and we wish him the best.
Gil Birmingham, Cole Hauser, Forrie J. Smith, Finn Little, and the other members of the main cast will also be reprising their roles on the show.
Yellowstone’s future spinoffs
Screenrant reported that Yellowstone will have two spinoffs focused on the 1883 and 1923 periods as well as another series called 6666.
6666 is an upcoming series that might be somehow connected to Rip, thus bridging the gap between Yellowstone and itself. According to Parade, Paramount is expected to release 6666 later this year.
Details about the storyline of these spinoffs haven’t even been revealed yet. It is quite possible that we’d get to hear from Paramount after Yellowstone’s conclusion.
