While Bridgerton fans cannot be a part of Polin’s iconic carriage scene, they can still visit numerous shooting locations all around England.
Netflix’s Bridgerton has shot to the top of the charts with each of its three seasons, and while many fans are gushing over the love interests and scandals that go on in the Ton, the real character that holds everything together is none other than London itself. From wisteria-covered homes to ballrooms grander than the eye can see, there is a certain appreciation everyone should have for the mesmerizing locations utilized all throughout the series.
Because many of the filming locations are set in places that are open to the public, fans can actually plan a whole trip throughout England based solely on their favorite Bridgerton scenes. The Bridgerton family estate, as well as their summer home, are perfect for iconic pictures, and there are more flower-filled parks than you can imagine — just be sure that if a hot air balloon starts moving your way, you take five steps to the side to get out of its path.
Here are 10 of the real-life locations you can visit if you want to feel like you have your own little side story in Bridgerton.
The Bridgerton Family Home (Exterior)
The exterior of the Bridgerton estate is something to marvel at, especially during the social season when the flowers are in full bloom and the home looks like something out of a storybook. It is where most of the Bridgertons currently reside, and it is often shown when the family is greeting people or departing. There is no surprise as to why Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) likes this view from her drawing-room window; then again, she could just be keeping an eye out for Colin (Luke Newton).
Ranger’s House in Greenwich, South-East London
In reality, the breathtaking house is not in a quaint square across from the Featheringtons in Mayfair, London. It is actually on the boundary of Greenwich and Blackheath in south-east London. The beautiful red-brick home was built in 1722, and it has been the home of many aristocrats and royal figures, including King George III’s sister, Princess Augusta, back in 1813. Currently, the massive rooms and gorgeous halls serve as a museum for the hundreds of art pieces that make up the Wernher Collection.
The Bridgerton Family Home (Interior)
To be able to comfortably accommodate eight rapidly growing children, it makes sense that the inside of the Bridgerton home needs to be very spacious. As the cameras pan through the halls, fans will see that there are plenty of beautiful sitting rooms and a foyer that doubles as a place to have a small family dance party. Now, because we know that Ranger’s House is actually used as an art museum, the many rooms that serve as the interior of the Bridgerton house are actually many miles away in RAF Halton, one of the UK’s largest Royal Air Force stations.
RAF Halton in Aylesbury
It seems odd for a Royal Air Force station to be used as the filming location for a romantic series, but when a few floral touches are added, it looks completely natural for the Bridgerton clan. RAF Halton has served as a military base since 1913, and it is safe to say that the people there don’t exactly want the public barging in to relive certain scenes from their favorite show.
Queen Charlotte’s Home (Exterior)
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) knows how to throw a party, and in Season 2, when she planned the once-in-a-lifetime wedding reception for Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Edwina (Charithra Chandran), everyone was desperate to be invited. The lawns outside her palace were just magnificent, even with the zoo animals and live statues taking up most guests’ attention.
Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey
Hampton Court Palace has played a rather significant role in Bridgeton, and for good reasons, too. Firstly, it is an astounding real royal palace that served as the home for the real Henry VIII and his many wives. In 1838, Queen Victoria was living in the palace, and she decided that it needed to be open to the public. The exterior gardens have served well as backdrops for the fake Queen Charlotte’s parties, but other works such as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and Belgravia have also utilized the historic location.
Queen Charlotte’s Home (Interior)
Queen Charlotte may be all alone with just her husband and dozens of her most loyal servants, but that does not mean that her home is not ready for hundreds of guests at all hours of the day. The interior of Queen Charlotte’s palace is astonishing, as beautiful pieces of artwork line her halls, the ceilings are as tall as her most gaudy wigs, and the gold accents everywhere just scream “royalty.”
Lancaster House near London
Because there are so many scenes that depict the inside of the reigning queen’s home, finding one single location to cover so much was simply impossible, so naturally, two locations have been used to show off Queen Charlotte’s elaborate rooms. Lancaster House, which was built in 1825 for the Duke of York and Albany, has been used to show off the Queen’s parlor, corridors, and jewelry room. The Georgian mansion is so nice, in fact, that it was also used as Buckingham Palace in The Crown.
More of Queen Charlotte’s Home (Interior)
It makes sense that Queen Charlotte would not like to mix too much business with her personal life, so when she has practically every wealthy family in her home for the young ladies to make their societal debut, she does this in a more secluded location on her property. The large room can easily hold a couple of hundred individuals, but the long walk from the doors to the podium where the queen sits is incredibly intimidating.
Wilton House near Salisbury
Along with Lancaster House being featured as the queen’s home, Wilton House, which is just south-west of London, was also used for Queen Charlotte’s home. Because of the dozens of rooms and 14,000 acres, Wilton House has happily welcomed film crews onto its lawns and through its doors. You can see the estate as a backdrop in works such as Emma, Tomb Raider, and The Crown.
Anthony and Edwina’s Wedding
On paper, Anthony and Edwina’s wedding was absolutely perfect. The queen approved of the match, the church was beautifully decorated, and the pair looked amazing. However, because their hearts were not in it, the pair ended up splitting apart in front of everyone at the altar. Happily, because the actual church was so beautiful, it is safe to say that all of their guests were not exactly bored while waiting for them to potentially come back and finish out the ceremony.
St. James Church in London
The almost-wedding took place in the St. James Church, Piccadilly in the heart of London. Originally built in the mid-1600s, the church has stood tall and seen its fair share of change. In 1940, it was severely damaged due to the uproar from the war, but it was later restored. Numerous weddings and concerts have happened within the holy walls, but many tourists simply bask in its beauty and appreciate the time and commitment it takes to keep such a historic location running on a day-to-day basis.
Hunting Grounds in Bridgerton Season 2
The castles and parlors and ballrooms are all very beautiful, but there is much to be appreciated about England’s countryside. In Bridgerton’s second season, audiences get to see Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) get down and dirty out in nature. They meet while riding through the woods; then they go on a hunting trip through the forest, and lastly, the pair create one of the most intense scenes ever while riding through the rain as Anthony chases after the woman he loves.
Windsor Great Park
All of these scenes actually take place in Windsor Great Park, which is just west of London. The royal park is about 5,000 acres and home to many critters and trees older than some royal families. The park used to be used as private hunting grounds, but now most of it is open to the public. You can find royals as well as average tourists walking about and admiring the natural beauty all around.
Aubrey Hall, The Bridgertons’ Home in the Country
Aside from their main home in the city, the Bridgertons also have a beautiful country home that sits on quite a bit of acreage, perfect for their long-standing traditional pall-mall competition. When the Sharmas arrive at the Bridgertons’ grand estate, they, much like fans, are completely in awe of the beautiful and inviting countryside. The stonework paired with the floral touches is simply perfect, and it is clear that the family feels free enough to let their guard down when they are back at the place where they were all raised.
Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire, England
The location used for Aubrey Hall is just north of London, and it is absolutely breathtaking. Sitting on 2,500 acres, the Palladian-style mansion is actually famous for being the backdrop location in several movies and series. The Kingsman film series, The Crown, the Downton Abbey movie, and Bridget Jones’ Diary have all made their way to Wrotham Park for several scenes, but if you plan to check out the location, you will certainly have to book a private (and expensive) event, as the estate is closed off to the public most of the year.
Lady Danbury’s Home
On the surface, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) may seem like a cold and angry individual, but the moment she deems you worthy of her time, she completely melts into the kindest woman ever. In Bridgerton’s season one, we find out that she and the Duke of Hasting’s mother were very close, and when the duke’s father essentially rejected him, she took him under her wing. The duke grew up in an elegant home surrounded by love and support.
Holburne Museum of Art in Bath
The set of Lady Danbury’s home is much like the Bridgertons’; the exterior shots are actually of a museum, the Holburne Museum of Art to be exact, while the interior shots come from different home states. Holburne Museum houses the art collection of Sir William Holburne as well as many other artifacts. It is Bath’s very first public art gallery, so if you find yourself in town, be sure to snap a picture of the iconic pillared home and pop in to see some incredible artwork.
The Garden Party in Bridgerton Season 3
Your front yard garden has absolutely nothing on the gardens spread across England, and with how much the Bridgertons seem to love beautiful floral arrangements, you can bet they know the best ones to visit. At the start of season three, the Bridgertons attend yet another garden party after Queen Charlotte was done with judging all the new young ladies with their mothers. The bushes are perfectly manicured, the colors pop out as much as the Featherington girls’ dresses, and it simply feels like something out of a classic Disney film.
Squerryes Court in Kent
This particular scene was shot at the Squerryes Court on the Livingston Estate in Kent. While the Netflix series primarily shows the pretty gardens and arrangements in the background, the estate is actually well-known for bottling the finest spirits. People from all over show up to have a nice dinner, attend a beautiful wedding, tour the facilities, and most importantly, sip some delicious, bubbly wine. You can book a tour or tasting on the Squerryes Court website.
