Who Does John Nolan End Up With? The Rookie Cop’s Love Interest In The Show

Alexi Hawley’s crime show titled, The Rookie, starring actor Nathan Fillion has been collecting great positive reviews ever since its premiere launch. Nathan Fillion, in the role of the rookie cop, John Nolan, who decided very late in his life that he wanted to be a police officer, has been appreciated by critics and fans for bringing the character alive.

The crime series, The Rookie, follows the story of a middle-aged cop, John Nolan, who enters the police officers a bit later than normal. We see how he makes space for himself, proving his worth and eventually excelling at his job and making a name for himself. The series definitely started as being about Nolan and his new life, but as it has progressed with new seasons, the makers of the show have expanded the story to other characters and cases.

This may not have been the best move considering the other actors in the show playing different characters are just not very memorable despite their hard work. The storyline was interesting till it revolved around Nolan, but with the producers focusing more on the cases and other characters, it has become just like any other cop series.

Apart from Nathan Fillion, the show also has Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson, Mekia Cox, and many others who contribute immensely to the show, just not enough to make the show stand out from other cop shows. It was revealed by actor Nathan Fillion that his character in the show has actually been inspired by a real-life cop named Bill Norcross, who joined the police force much later than is usually allowed.

While the show started with the spotlight on John Nolan, it has definitely managed to broaden its scope and has even introduced many new characters and story arcs. In recent seasons, we saw Nolan completely settled in the LAPD, even being involved in important cases. The makers of the show also decided to take away Nolan’s lone middle-aged cop vibe, bringing in one particular character for the sake of him having a happy love life.

John Nolan & His Partner
The series opened its first-ever episode with John Nolan confirming that he had just gotten a divorce, establishing that the show, at some point, would introduce his ex-wife. He mentions his relationship with her had not been the worst thing possible, just that things did not work out between the two. It is also revealed that Nolan has a college-going son, though he is barely mentioned in the episodes.

With the series in motion, Nolan manages to find another love interest called Lucy Chen, and the two start dating, though their relationship does not last much longer than a few months. Lucy moves on to date someone else, while Nolan also gets into a relationship with a woman named Jessica Russo. They continue to date throughout a significant portion of season two but eventually decide to break up because Russo, still a young woman, wishes to have her own kids, but Nolan, an old guy in his mid-forties, does not want to raise another one of his own.

As they break up, the series introduces another character called Grace Sawyer, Nolan’s high school fling, and it becomes very prominent that the two might end up together. The two end up on a date, but their relationship does not really get anywhere, as it is revealed that Sawyer is married and wishes to continue being with her husband.

Nolan’s recent and probably most lasting relationship began with the entry of Bailey Nune, a firefighter and Nolan’s current love interest. At the time Bailey was introduced, she was still married, but it was revealed to be an abusive marriage, which Nolan helped her get out of. He made sure that the two could get a divorce and that her husband stayed in jail for as long as possible.

The story takes turns in a way that Bailey and Nolan get to see each other often, eventually getting into a relationship with each other. This is the first serious relationship for Nolan, as it continues to grow over seasons, eventually getting to the point of the two gettings engaged. We will only know where the two will take their relationship, but fans are desperately hoping that the two continue to be together.

Bailey is one confident and secure woman who does not shy away or feel jealous when meeting with Nolan’s exes. She is an optimistic character who seems to fully trust Nolan, knowing well enough that he will not do anything that may ruin their relationship. The producers continue to bring back Nolan’s ex-lovers in the show, and the fans continue to worry that just like other shows, The Rookie will also indulge in a love triangle just to add spice to the show.

Though this has not happened yet, probably because of Bailey’s strong and secure personality, fans still continue to hope that the show continues just as it has till now.
