Bridgerton season 3 gave an update on Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister, with Queen Charlotte claiming she’s made a charming “match abroad.” Edwina was first introduced in season 2, with Kate trying her hardest to find her sister a love match. Denying his feelings, Anthony pursued Edwina in the hopes of securing a wife to fulfill his duty. At the end of Bridgerton season 2, however, Edwina was no longer engaged to Anthony and without a love match for herself.
Although Queen Charlotte tells Edwina that her nephew, Prince Friedrich — who briefly courted Daphne, Bridgerton’s diamond of the season — was available, Bridgerton season 3 leaves the question of who Edwina ended up marrying unanswered. Edwina’s mystery match is referenced in a conversation between Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury, but the Netflix series is coy about providing the name of Edwina’s suitor and his location. “Abroad” isn’t very specific; Edwina could have moved to Germany or anywhere else in Europe, or even India. Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books, however, do reveal who she ends up marrying.
Edwina Sharma’s “Match Abroad” Could Be Prince Friedrich Or An Entirely New Character
Keeping it vague leaves a bit of mystery regarding Edwina’s match
Edwina could have very well married Prince Friedrich in the time between Bridgerton season 2 and season 3. After all, the prince was still single by the end of season 2, and his kindness and warm-hearted nature would have suited Edwina. They would make a beautiful match. Bridgerton season 3 doesn’t outright confirm Edwina married Prince Friedrich. Why not reveal they tied the knot offscreen if it was already teased last season? The lack of confirmation suggests Edwina may have found another suitable match.
Bridgerton isn’t beholden to every aspect from the books, so it wouldn’t be surprising had Edwina ended up with a character created for the show…
In the book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, Edwina ends up marrying the scholar Mr. Bagwell. Their match is certainly not as high-profile as Kate and Anthony’s relationship, but Edwina and Mr. Bagwell get along quite well in the book. They share plenty of common interests, and they especially like to read books and discuss them together. However, it’s just as likely that Edwina married an entirely new character. Bridgerton isn’t beholden to every aspect from the books, so it wouldn’t be surprising had Edwina ended up with a character created for the show, especially since his name isn’t mentioned.
Bridgerton Season 3’s Edwina Reference Hints Her Book Romance May Not Happen
Mr. Bagwell was a match Edwina made in London
While Edwina marries Mr. Bagwell in the books, the fact is that she doesn’t meet him abroad. Edwina’s absence in Bridgerton season 3 puts her at a bit of a disadvantage here, as it seems like her match is mentioned only vaguely because she’s not onscreen. Learning that she found a match abroad confirms that she at least got a happy ending to her story, but the lack of details will forever keep viewers curious as to who she married exactly. It could be Mr. Bagwell, though Edwina met him in London, or it could be someone Bridgerton hasn’t even introduced yet (and probably has no plans to).
Bridgerton season 4 could confirm this mystery man’s identity, though it’s possible Edwina’s romance with Mr. Bagwell won’t happen at all in Bridgerton. It’s not as though she’ll be around for the relationship to be showcased onscreen. One would like to hope Edwina ended up marrying the prince, though leaving it up for interpretation leaves her with multiple spousal options. Regardless of who Edwina ended up with, it’s nice to know that Bridgerton at least confirmed she made a splendid match — even if it was offscreen.
