Who is Mel on ‘Tracker?’ What to know about the new cast member

There’s a new character on season 3 of “Tracker.”

Melanie “Mel” Day was introduced during the Sunday, Nov. 2, episode of the CBS drama. Played by Cassady McClincy Zhang, Mel is Reenie’s (Fiona Rene) new assistant.

Mel told Reenie that she is “curious” about her work with Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), a professional “rewardist” who uses his impressive tracking skills to assist law enforcement and private citizens in exchange for reward money. She also shared that she also has an aversion to traditional channels of justice due to a past experience.

“[My mom] was found [dead] in her car, shot in the parking lot of a rest stop, but they never found out who did it. So there were no answers, no justice,” Mel told Reenie. “I guess it just felt like the systems that were supposed to be there to support her were more interested in protecting themselves.”

The introduction of Mel is a bit surprising, considering the fact that “Tracker” just said goodbye to two series regulars: Abby McEnany, who played Shaw’s second handler Velma, and Eric Graise, who played hacker extraordinaire Bobby Exley. The show doesn’t need more characters whose main purpose is help Shaw, but it’s possible that Mel is not just an innocent new addition to the team

“I absolutely positively do not trust Melanie Day,” one fan wrote via Reddit.

“Why do I got a odd feeling that Mel might be a serial killer or a stalker #TrackerCBS,” another person quipped via X. Mel did tell Reenie that one of her interests is “murder podcasts,” which could be a clue.

As for the actor behind the new mysterious character, McClincy Zhang previously played Lydia on “The Walking Dead.” She’s also made appearances on “Chicago Med” (Ariel Sparkman), “Castle Rock” (Young Molly Strand), and “Ozark” (Anna Sloan).
