The second season of Tracker has completed its run and with its season finale came an earth-shattering revelation regarding the circumstances behind the death of Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen). It is a moment that negatively impacted the Shaw family in the Justin Hartley-led CBS procedural. The drama has been renewed for a third season and while Hartley’s Colter and his siblings will have to deal with this new piece of information somehow, the upcoming season will also look to flesh out another character. Fiona Rene’s Reenie Greene has been a mainstay since the series premiered in 2024. Despite working as legal counsel for Colter and their occasional romantic tension, not much has been revealed about the character. Showrunner Elwood Reid reveals that is all about to change in Season 3.
Reid, in an interview with ScreenRant, was quizzed about whether Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany) would have a bigger role in Season 3. He responds affirmatively before unveiling plans for Reenie. “A little bit. I think the main character we want to build out is Reenie,” Elwood said. “What does her world look like, and how do we build out that world a little bit more and include Randy or whoever else in that world? Those are some of our ideas, but I’ve not sat down with the writers yet.” Reenie’s life has already been explored in Season 2 with a new romance kicked off with Elliot (Michael Rady), and her professional relationship with her mysterious client, Leo Sharf (Pej Vahdat), had the attorney skating too close to the mountains edge in a recent episode.
‘Tracker’ Season 2 Proves Families Can be Messy
While Reenie and Velma are important cogs to the Tracker machinery and while the showrunner is interested in exploring them further. Reid admits that those stories will take a backseat while he cleans out the Shaw family mess after the latest secret gets out. “In about two weeks, we’ll start talking about all this stuff, but those are the bigger puzzle pieces,” the showrunner says. “The big mess that I have to clean up is what he learned about his mother, and how does he then deal with his brother and his sister? Then we’ll go into all those other storylines and try to figure out how those fit into the season.”
Besides Hartley’s Colter, Tracker has shown us just how much damage the death of Ashton Shaw, despite his perceived paranoia, affected his kids. His eldest son, Russell (Jensen Ackles), is a man of combat, who, until Season 2, wasn’t on the best of terms with Colter, who believed him responsible for their father’s death. While Colter wasn’t speaking with Russell, their only sister, Melissa Roxburgh’s Dory, wasn’t speaking to their mom. For her own part, Mary (Wendy Crewson) was not on the best of her terms with her children except for Colter. Now, with Mary implicated in their father’s death, How does that change her relationship with Colter?
Seasons 1 and 2 of Tracker are now streaming on Paramount+.
