Who Left Roseanne? Major Cast Members Who Quit the Show ng01

Over its long history, Roseanne experienced several cast departures. Some actors left for personal or career reasons, while others were written out as the series evolved. These exits changed the dynamics of the Conner family and became memorable moments for fans.

Here are some of the most notable actors who left the show.

1. Lecy Goranson (Original Becky Conner)

Lecy Goranson originally played Becky Conner, the responsible and often rebellious oldest daughter of the Conner family.

During the fifth season, Goranson decided to leave the show to attend college at Vassar. Because Becky was an important character, the producers recast the role with Sarah Chalke.

This created one of the most famous casting situations in sitcom history, where two actresses alternated playing the same character.

2. Glenn Quinn (Mark Healy)

Glenn Quinn played Mark Healy, Becky’s tough but loyal husband.

Although Mark appeared regularly in the later seasons of Roseanne, the character did not return in the reboot years later. Quinn sadly passed away in 2002, long before the revival series was produced.

Because of this, Mark’s absence became an emotional storyline when the show returned.

3. Johnny Galecki (David Healy)

Johnny Galecki played David Healy, Darlene’s sensitive and artistic boyfriend.

Although Galecki remained part of the show through its original run, he appeared only occasionally in the later revival years because he was busy starring in another hit sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.

This limited his role in the newer episodes.

4. Roseanne Barr

The biggest and most controversial departure happened in 2018.

After the successful revival of Roseanne, the network fired Roseanne Barr following a controversial social media post. As a result, the show was cancelled despite its high ratings.

However, the rest of the cast continued the story in a new spinoff series called The Conners, where Roseanne Conner was written out of the story.

5. Michael Fishman (D.J. Conner – Later Exit)

Michael Fishman played D.J. Conner, the youngest child in the Conner family.

While he returned for the revival and later appeared in The Conners, he eventually stepped away from the series to pursue other creative and directing projects.

Why Cast Changes Matter in Roseanne

Even though some actors left, the heart of Roseanne always remained the same: a working-class family dealing with real-life problems.

The show’s willingness to adapt to cast changes is one reason it managed to stay relevant across multiple decades.
