Why Chicago Fire Season 13 Wrote Out Monica So Quickly

Admittedly, Chicago Fire season 13 didn’t do a good enough job of establishing Monica. As previously mentioned, her appearances were mostly with Chief Pascal, as they also dealt with their own maritial issues — something that we still haven’t learned the specifics of. Despite that, it’s clear, however, that the couple was very much in love. Chief Pascal adored his wife so immensely, that he followed her from Miami to Chicago. It would have been so much more powerful if the series had spent time developing her relationship with the rest of Firehouse 51.

Because of the nature of her death, there is no concrete information about why Chicago Fire season 13 wrote her out so quickly. That being said, it’s safe to say that Monica’s story was always just meant to propel Chief Pascal’s new chapter back in the Windy City as he takes over as Firehouse 51’s new leader. As the procedural enters the final stretch of the TV cycle, her tragic loss puts the focus on her grieving husband. Per the Chicago Fire season 13, episode 16 teaser (via TV Promos), his people will come up with ways to support him.

How Monica’s Death Changes The Future Of Chicago Fire

Until now, Chicago Fire has barely put Chief Pascal at the center of its narrative. The majority of his storylines has been focused on his work with Firehouse 51, with snippets of his personal arc. Granted that his life outside of the firehouse has been mainly involved Monica, her death is expected to pave the way for a shift in focus for the show. As Chief Pascal grieves, Firehouse 51 and the viewers will likely learn more about the man, which is integral, if there’s any long-term future for him in the project.

While they have gotten used to Chief Boden’s absence, Chicago Fire still hasn’t fully settled Chief Pascal as his replacement yet.
Beyond his own story, it will also present a unique situation for Firehouse 51. While they have gotten used to Chief Boden’s absence, Chicago Fire still hasn’t fully settled Chief Pascal as his replacement yet. He has had progress when it comes to his dynamic with some of the people in his team, but seeing him this vulnerable will prompt Kelly Severide and the rest to step up and support him, fostering a better relationship moving forward.
