SEAL Team star David Boreanaz has revealed that season 7 would have been the last for his character, Jason Hayes, even if the series hadn’t been canceled. SEAL Team season 7 will be the final batch of episodes for the long-running military drama, the show coming to a conclusion after being on the air since 2017. Originally airing on CBS, the show moved over to Paramount+ for season 5, resulting in shorter but more focused seasons. Now, the series is coming to an end, with ten more episodes remaining.
Speaking with Screen Rant, however, Boreanaz revealed that, even if SEAL Team had continued beyond season 7, this would have been the final batch of episodes where he would portray Jason. The actor explained how the upcoming episodes are a perfect way for his characters’ story to end, something he felt was necessary at this point in his development. Check out what Boreanaz had to say below:
I’ve been playing this character for eight years and seven seasons, which has been the run of the show. I knew going into the season that it would be my last. I waited for this moment to kind of talk about that. For me, personally, I just saw it as a great time for the character to come full circle for what these special operators go through. It made sense because of the characters and his relationship to the teams and Brotherhood, so I was excited to come to that conclusion.
It was something that I had decided before the writers strike had hit, and then the writers strike hit, and things were crazy for a few months, as you know, and then we just decided that was it. I’m excited and humbled that I was able to play a character of this magnitude, but my body thanks me for taking a break and letting this one go.
How Will Jason’s Story End In SEAL Team Season 7?
During season 6, the main characters of SEAL Team suffered a tragic loss when Clay (Max Thieriot) died trying to prevent a veteran from committing suicide. Given how close Jason had been to him since the very start of the show, the sudden, major death will no doubt have a key impact on him in the final episodes. Since this will be the last leg of his journey before the show comes to a close, his grief will likely be a key factor in how he handles the missions his team will be facing next.
But, beyond his friend’s death and his continued leadership position on the team, he’ll also have to balance his life as a single father. The number of responsibilities weighing on his shoulders will likely contribute to how his character evolves moving forward, ultimately giving him an ending that fits his character. Even though the series has been canceled, the final season still has a chance to bring his story to a worthwhile conclusion, alongside every other character story that’s been woven into the show up to this point.
While Bravo Team’s future is likely to change alongside Jason’s role moving forward, SEAL Team can still prioritize giving him a worthwhile ending that brings his story to a strong conclusion. Given Boreanaz’s positive thoughts about his character’s story coming to a close, it seems like there will be a strong, fitting ending despite the series’ cancellation. With season 7’s premiere just around the corner, it won’t be long until the final episodes fully reveal what to expect from the show’s ending.
