Why did The Good Doctor surpass both Nevertheless and Hospital Playlist 2 to become the hottest TV series right now?
Why did The Good Doctor surpass both Nevertheless and Hospital Playlist 2 to become the hottest TV series right now?
Recently, the two names that have continuously held the top position on the Netflix Vietnam trending chart are Nevertheless and Hospital Playlist 2. The appeal of these two Korean dramas is so great, yet recently they were “surpassed” by a strange name – The Good Doctor. Having reached its 4th season, The Good Doctor has just appeared on Netflix and immediately attracted attention, gradually rising in rank and reaching the highest position after a few days. So what is the reason that this drama spreads heat even stronger than the two Korean “TV bombs”?
The Good Doctor is an American remake of the 2013 Korean drama Good Doctor. At the time of its release, Good Doctor received a lot of praise and won at the 2014 Beaksang Arts Awards.
The film is about Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) – a young man with savant syndrome and autism. Therefore, although he is very talented and has the ability to diagnose diseases and perform excellent surgeries, he only has the communication skills of a child. The film is Shaun’s journey with the staff and patients at the hospital as he gradually matures and overcomes the complexes and pain of the past.
As a medical film, The Good Doctor has a way of expressing and combining special effects so that the audience is not confused or “overwhelmed” by the overly advanced medical knowledge.
A plus point of The Good Doctor is that the film has quite “healing” content, with each patient at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital being a touching, warm story. The characters in the film are not really evil, all have the sole desire to save people – however, each person has a different way of working and thinking. Therefore, even if conflicts occur in the film, they do not make the audience feel uncomfortable or angry.
The cases of The Good Doctor are also extremely diverse and humane: a pregnant woman with a tumor has to choose between her life or her unborn child, a girl filming a porn film alone at the hospital without daring to call her family, a child with cancer but accepts the ending… If compared to Hospital Playlist, The Good Doctor may not be as funny but is still extremely warm and healing for the audience.

Freddie Highmore has always strived to contribute to cinema, and his talent has also brought him many prestigious awards and nominations including the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice.
