Why Ormewood’s Wife Must Return to Will Trent—Before It’s Too Late

It Would Be Weird If Will Trent Season 4 Didn’t Bring Back This Missing Character After Ormewood’s Twist

Heading into Will Trent season 4, it’s imperative that one missing character returns, if only to enrich Ormewood’s storyline. Well, that is assuming he survives. As fans know, Will Trent season 3 ended with Ormewood seizing on the floor and Faith frantically calling 9-1-1. So, it’s possible that he will die, but if he doesn’t, it’s time for the aforementioned character to return.

Ormewood has had quite the journey throughout Will Trent’s three seasons. He certainly didn’t begin the cop show as everyone’s fan-favorite, as he was cruel, ignorant, and not the best husband or father. However, as time continues, Ormewood undergoes impressive character development. Now, he’s an integral member of the team, even if someone close to him has been absent since season 2.

Ormewood’s Wife Hasn’t Been Seen Since Season 2
At the end of Will Trent season 2, Ormewood reunited with his wife, Gina, who had been away at a mental health facility. While she was gone, Ormewood stepped up to the plate and became the father that his children deserved. After all his hard work, though, Gina returned ready to divorce him and gain full custody of their two kids.

Since she dropped a bomb on her husband, Gina hasn’t been seen in the ABC police procedural series. She didn’t appear in any of season 3’s 18 episodes, and Ormewood has hardly even mentioned Gina since he told her, “I’m really glad that you’re feeling better, but there is no way in hell you’re taking my kids” during the Will Trent season 2 finale.

Finally, it’s strange that Ormewood’s divorce and fight over his kids are happening without Gina present.

Ormewood talked about how expensive his divorce and custody battle had been in Will Trent season 3 (which is why he took on a second job as Ariana Madix’s bodyguard). Outside of that, Gina has been all but nonexistent. It certainly didn’t help when doctors found a tumor in Ormewood’s brain, shifting his storyline to his health instead of his legal struggles.

Will Trent Never Thoroughly Explored Ormewood & Gina’s Divorce Arc

While Ormewood’s latest arc about his brain tumor was rather intriguing and helped further his character development in Will Trent, it also meant that the show couldn’t fully explore his divorce and custody battle. The season 2 finale seems to set those up to be a huge conflict for Ormewood in season 3. Instead, his struggles with Gina have been pushed to the background.

It would be wise of the Will Trent writers to circle back to the drama between Ormewood and Gina in season 4 (given that he survives his shock, of course). As far as we know, they aren’t divorced yet. And custody over their two children (Max and Cooper) hasn’t been decided. As a result, the audience needs answers as soon as possible.

Will Trent Season 3 Trailer
Will Trent has proven how much Ormewood’s kids mean to him. So, if they were to be taken away from him, it’s unclear how he would react. Would the APD detective return to his former self? Or would Ormewood fight even harder to get Max and Cooper back? These are the questions that Will Trent must answer in season 4.

Gina Must Return After Ormewood’s Brush With Death In The Will Trent Season 3 Finale
Given Ormewood’s health scare, it wouldn’t make sense if Gina continued to be absent in Will Trent season 4. Yes, they’re separated. But Gina might still care for Ormewood, who is the father of her children, after all. Perhaps Gina doesn’t hold any more love for him in her heart, though, and that could also be an interesting development in season 4.

Assuming he survives, Ormewood still has a brain tumor, and Gina should be worried about him. At the very least, she should be concerned that her kids might lose their father. So, Gina could return to support Ormewood (or the show could fully lean into her being a villain, and she could use his diagnosis to her advantage in the couple’s custody battle).

Finally, it’s strange that Ormewood’s divorce and fight over his kids are happening without Gina present. She should be serving as the foil to Jake McLaughlin’s main character in Will Trent. In reality, Gina has been missing since the season 2 finale. To make up for her absence, Will Trent must bring Ormewood’s wife back in season 4.
