When people think of Three’s Company, the image of a beautiful, innocent but equally charming blonde girl immediately comes to mind. That is Suzanne Somers, who created the iconic “Chrissy Snow” – one of the most beloved sitcom characters of the 70s.
But few people know that Suzanne herself was confused and worried to the point of insomnia when she received the role that changed her life forever.
In a retrospective interview about her early days in Three’s Company, Somers revealed that she “stayed up all night” after being informed that she had won the role of Chrissy Snow:
“I couldn’t sleep,” she shared. “I was afraid that I would ruin this opportunity. I didn’t come from a Hollywood family, I didn’t have anyone to guide me, so I wasn’t sure how I would handle it.”
Suzanne Somers had been through many odd jobs, small roles in TV shows and commercials at that time. Three’s Company was the biggest opportunity of her career, but it also placed the weight of expectation on her shoulders.
Chrissy Snow, with her innocent smile and slightly “goofy” personality, quickly won over audiences. After just a few episodes, Somers went from a little-known face to a national star. But with the aura came enormous pressure – from sudden success, to a tight filming schedule, to balancing family life.
“I had to tell myself: Go on set and do your best. But I was really nervous. This was a big role for a young girl from San Bruno,” she says.
Still, those sleepless nights led to one of the most memorable performances on American television. Chrissy Snow was more than just a role – she became a cultural icon, representing the innocence and pure joy of that generation.
After Three’s Company, Somers went on to a successful career, from acting to business to writing. But she looks back on those early days with deep gratitude, even though they were both thrilling and overwhelming.
“If I could go back in time, I would tell that young girl: It’s going to be okay. You’re good enough, and America will love you.”
