Unfortunately, there will be no new Ghosts this week, along with any other original scripted CBS programming. This is disappointing following an eventful run of episodes since Ghosts returned from its winter hiatus. Jay has finally opened his restaurant with the help of his sister, Bela. Pete helped Thor learn the truth about his abandonment in Ghosts season 4, episode 11. In a shockingly quick turnaround, the man of Isaac’s dreams, Chris, dies on the property and comes back as a ghost, although it wasn’t the happy ending Isaac envisioned.
Despite being one of the most senior spirits, Hetty was one of the last ghosts in CBS’ Ghosts to discover her power. In Ghosts season 4, episode 16, Hetty’s truly awesome power is revealed: the ability to be seen by the living, at least on St. Patrick’s Day. Despite the momentum of these developments, we will have to wait until next month to learn whether Chris will have to return to the property or if Hetty is ready for a real relationship, as there will not be a new Ghosts episode next week either.
Why There Is No New Ghosts Tonight (March 20, 2025)
Ghosts is on a two-week hiatus as CBS is bumping all scripted programming in favor of airing the annual March Madness college basketball tournament games beginning March 18, 2025. Starting at 12:15 pm ET/9:15 am PT, March Madness games begin airing on CBS. The games will continue all day until midnight, with a two-hour break for local programming and CBS Evening News in the early evening, before more games take the network’s prime-time slots.
It is not only Ghosts whose schedule is impacted by March Madness. CBS will not air any of its usual Thursday night lineup: Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Matlock, and Elsbeth are all on a two-week hiatus. Daytime soap operas like Beyond the Gates, The Bold & the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless are also affected by the collegiate basketball tournament. Next week’s shows will be bumped for the Sweet Sixteen games that will be live during prime-time broadcast times.
When Will Ghosts Season 4, Episode 17 Release?
Ghosts will return for season 4, episode 17, “His Girl Shiki” on April 3, 2025. Not much is known about the rest of Ghosts season 4, but the title seems to be a play on the classic romantic screwball comedy movie, His Girl Friday. After Ghosts returns from its March Madness hiatus, there will be six more episodes to bring the season 4 episode count to 22. Ghosts tends to have a traditional network sitcom episode order, with season 3’s abbreviated 10-episode total being impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
While the two-week hiatus is disappointing following the reveal of not one but two ghost powers in season 4, episode 16, the break does give people a chance to catch up or revisit the first 16 episodes. All four seasons of CBS’ Ghosts – plus the original U.K. series that inspired the U.S. version – are available on Paramount+. Because of March Madness, CBS will not be airing reruns of their scripted programming as they typically do in hiatus weeks, as they will be broadcasting the basketball games live.
