In Station 19 season 6, episode 14, Travis made the decision to drop out of the mayoral race and endorse Councilman Osman, and though somewhat shocking, Travis made the right choice. Travis’s main storyline in Station 19 season 6 has been about his mayoral campaign, which picked up steam to the point where it actually seemed like Travis could become the next mayor of Seattle. While Travis initially joined the mayoral race in Station 19 to prevent Dixon from becoming mayor, he quickly found that he was passionate about politics despite his lack of experience and love for firefighting.
The campaign storyline for Travis in Station 19 has been an exciting way to learn about his character and to bring on a new character in Eli. Station 19 is a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, and while it’s a show about firefighters, it’s similar to its parent show in how it deals with the politics of the fire station and department as well as the actual cases. It has also provided more storylines for Travis, separate from the rest of the characters on Station 19, but dropping out of the mayoral race was good news for his character and the series in the long run.
Travis Being Mayor Would Take Time Away From Station 19
Ultimately, if Travis had stayed in the race and become mayor, it would have changed his character completely in Station 19. Travis would have had to quit being a firefighter, leaving him as one of two non-firefighters in a firefighter show. This would not just take away screen time from him as a character but also move some of Station 19’s focus as they’d have to create more storylines outside the station and the fire department.
The problem of having a non-firefighter on a firefighter show is evident with Carina’s character, as she is currently the only main character in Station 19 who doesn’t work within the fire department. While she does work at the clinic occasionally, it makes it hard to find time and storylines for her character to be involved with anyone beyond Maya, as their relationship was the reason Carina left Grey’s Anatomy for Station 19 when another planned storyline fell through. By dropping out of the mayoral race, Travis won’t have to face this problem, nor will Station 19.
Travis Wasn’t Qualified To Be Mayor In Station 19
One of the biggest reasons that Travis ended up stepping down in the mayoral race in Station 19 is because he knew he wasn’t the most qualified candidate. Travis wanted to stop Dixon from winning the race but knew Osman would be a better, more qualified mayor. If Travis had been named mayor in Station 19, his storyline would have become about how he was in over his head, similar to the storyline that is currently unfolding with Theo now that he’s been made interim captain. Travis’s Station 19 campaign storyline was great for his character, but he made the right choice by dropping out of the race.
