While Will has had a love interest in every season of Will Trent so far, the upcoming episodes will feature him exploring a new relationship that is strictly platonic. Will had been in an on-and-off relationship with his childhood friend, Angie Polaski, for years. But after arresting her at the end of Will Trent season 2, their romance is seemingly over for good.
As such, Will started dating someone new in Will Trent season 3 — Marion Alba, an Assistant District Attorney. Unfortunately for Will, that relationship also ended in turmoil. So, heading into season 4, the ABC police procedural TV series’ protagonist is single (and not ready to mingle). Hopefully, it’ll stay that way so that Will can focus on a more interesting new relationship.
Will Is Going To Meet His Half-Siblings In Season 4
Caleb Has A Family
Will met his biological father toward the end of Will Trent season 3. The GBI sent Will and his partner, Faith Mitchell, to assist with a small town’s murder investigation, and the local sheriff, Caleb Roussard, turned out to be the protagonist’s dad. The forensics team made the discovery when the crime scene got contaminated, and every officer had to submit blood samples.
At first, Will wanted nothing to do with Caleb. He asserted that he had survived long enough without his birth father and didn’t need him now. Meanwhile, Caleb, who previously had no idea he even had another son, tried to make an effort to get to know Will. By the time the Will Trent season 3 finale concluded, Caleb convinced Will to give him a chance.
It remains unclear how old Will’s half-siblings are, how many of them there are, exactly how old they are, etc. All we know is that the Will Trent main character has more than one sibling. And we can deduce that they are likely adults. Whatever the case, Will’s burgeoning relationships with his father and half-siblings are the most intriguing dynamics of season 4.
Why Will’s New Relationship With Caleb & His Family Must Take Precedence In Season 4
Will Isn’t Ready For A Serious Romantic Relationship
The ABC cop TV show must prioritize Will’s relationship with Caleb and his family for a handful of reasons. For starters, they will serve as new dynamics for the protagonist. The audience has seen him with his uncle, co-workers, love interests, and friends. However, Will’s connection with Caleb and his siblings is completely different, making it all the more exciting.
The entire scenario is just too good an opportunity for the Will Trent writers to fumble. All the fresh dynamics have so much potential to create fascinating stories and complex character arcs in season 4. One would be lying if they said they weren’t interested in seeing Will interact with his newly discovered father and half-siblings.
Plus, it’s time to give Will’s love life a break in Will Trent season 4. He obviously hasn’t moved on from his romantic relationship with Angie, given his reaction to learning that she was pregnant during the season 3 finale. Will is still holding onto hope that one day he and Angie will get their happy ending. But that’s unrealistic.
Angie has moved on from Will and is having a baby with another man. As such, Will must come to terms with this reality before he can open his heart up to another woman. Will also still has a lot of trauma to work through. He simply isn’t prepared for a serious relationship, but he is ready to form a connection with Caleb and his family.
What Will’s New Family Means For His Story & Will Trent Season 4
The ABC Series Has Never Truly Explored A Sibling Dynamic
Will Trent never developed an important sibling dynamic over the course of its first three seasons. In fact, as far as we know, every main character is an only child except for Will. So, Will’s new relationships with Caleb and his half-siblings are rather exciting and intriguing, and exploring them is much more important than finding a new love interest.
If Will Trent season 4 capitalizes on this opportunity for Will’s character arc, his upcoming story could be his best yet. It’s also important to get the casting right. The producers did a great job picking Yul Vasquez to play Caleb. Now, they must find ideal actors to portray Will’s half-siblings in Will Trent, ensuring they have great chemistry with Ramón Rodríguez.
