Will & Angie’s Last Goodbye? Erika Christensen Reflects on That Bittersweet Will Trent Finale Moment

If Will Trent star Erika Christensen’s reaction is any indication, Tuesday’s Season 3 finale could just as easily represent an ending as it does a new beginning for Will and Angie.

After thwarting a Founders Front attack, Will joins Angie for her first ultrasound — a bittersweet moment between the exes that culminates in their admission that, yes, this is a little weird.

“I’ve been thinking about this moment,” Angie says, listening to her baby’s heartbeat. “Just us, sitting here.” But neither she nor Will ever expected that she’d be welcoming a child into the world with another man. She thanks Will for being there, rests her head on his shoulder, and then the baby’s father Seth (played by frequent guest star Scott Foley) comes over to “unload” on him.

When TVLine caught up with Christensen at the Disney Upfront in New York City on Tuesday, she was still trying to make sense of the scene, which she called a “meaningful” moment for the series’ central couple (albeit consciously separated).

“They both made that choice [to be there],” she said. “She allowed him to be there, she wanted him to be there, and he wanted to be there for her. They both felt like it was the right thing to do at that moment, and then it felt— It was meaningful. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s some kind of final closure, a final appreciation of what could have been, or if it leads us to something else.”

But whatever the future holds, Christensen believes—or at least hopes—that Will will play a central role in the life of Angie’s child. She also thinks Angie will “really step up and be the best version of herself” for the sake of her future son or daughter in Season 4.

“It’s a whole new part of her that she hasn’t explored [and] we haven’t seen,” she points out. “I also think her mother’s passing is really interesting because whether she was subconsciously living for her mother or trying to please this person who wasn’t even in her life, [DeeDee] is now definitely gone, so she can re-evaluate what’s important to her.”
