Will Donnie Wahlberg’s New Show Boston Blue Be Filmed in Boston?

Last month, news broke that the popular Blue Bloods series from CBS will be getting a spinoff for the next season.

Fans who were disappointed to hear the long running series was coming to an end will still get to see Detective Danny Reagan in action.

Donnie Wahlberg was announced as the lead in Boston Blue, a spinoff series that could bring him back home.

What Will Boston Blue Be About?

Last month, news broke that the popular Blue Bloods series from CBS will be getting a spinoff for the next season.

According to Deadline.com, the series was actually pitched to CBS as Jamaica Plain by S.W.A.T. screenwriters, Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis.

Their series idea was about “a family of police officers in Boston whose eldest daughter is collaborating with a new transfer from LAPD.” CBS picked up the show based on that pitch and only recently changed the LAPD transfer officer to a NYPD detective – you guessed it, Danny Reagan.

Where Will Boston Blue Be Filmed?

Though no confirmation of film location has been revealed, there is plenty of speculation that the show will actually shoot scenes in Massachusetts.

First of all, Blue Bloods was set in New York City and filmed in New York City, so there is a precedence with the series.

Secondly, Donnie Wahlberg himself was born and raised in Boston with many family members still in the city. Not to mention the fact that Wahlberg is angling to get a WBNA in town that he would be part owner of.

There have been a number of TV shows set in Boston throughout the years, but sadly almost none of them actually filmed anywhere near Massachusetts.

So we’ll have to wait and see if Wahlberg pulls for local filming on his new hometown show or lets the West Coast shooting trend continue.
