Anybody suffering from the Bridgerton blues can breathe a sigh of relief as, contrary to popular opinion, there are no current plans to ‘combine’ seasons.
Speaking to Teen Vogue on June 14, Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed the fact. ‘I don’t have any plans to combine seasons,’ she told the outlet. ‘I want every sibling to have their own season and I know that Shonda [Rhimes] wants that as well.’
Brownell was also asked in the interview about her plans to continue the series in the future, to which she replied, ‘I have a roadmap in my head of where we want to go, and Shonda and I have talked privately about our plans for seasons beyond season four, if we’re allowed to continue in the way that we hope we will be able to.’
Netflix’s Bridgerton, which is based on the Regency-era novels of the same name by Julia Quinn, is expected to have eight seasons in accordance with Quinn’s series of eight novels.
The first season of Bridgerton told the story of Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) relationship with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the second season focussed on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his will-he-won’t-he affair with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley and the third season finally gave fans what they wanted with the marriage of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
Fans have been speculating since the airing of the season three finale which member of the Bridgerton brood will be the focus of the upcoming fourth season. Fans have argued that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) should be next since his journey with love interest Sophie — which was the focus of the third novel An Offer From a Gentleman — was passed over for season three, while others have suggested that Francesca Bridgerton could be next.
