“Will Staten Lose It All? Ransom Canyon Season 2 Teases a Devastating Turn”

Netflix’s Western Ransom Canyon may be sweeping you off your feet with its love triangles and rodeos, but before we delve into our expectations, let’s remind ourselves that nothing is confirmed just yet. But if the popularity of a show is any indication, then I have a feeling this one will get its green light. In the first season, we were introduced to 3 major families in Ransom: the Kirklands, Fullers, and Collinses. Yes, the women of the town somehow have no families or land to themselves, but I guess playing exciting love interests and running dance halls is enough? At the end of the first season, rather than resolving all conflicts, the show creates new ones that feel tacked on. It has got me thinking, if a love is so fragile, is it love at all? Or maybe I’m just being as dramatic as the drama at hand.

At the end of the first season, Staten gets justice for his son, and the sheriff’s wife, i.e., Lauren’s mother, is arrested for Randall’s hit and run. But Staten’s troubles aren’t cleared just yet, because his father and Davis are determined to make a buck (well, a few million bucks) on Staten’s land, and they’ll stoop to any low to get it. Staten decides to bring in solar power to his ranch, which is expensive, and his dad is completely against it. We already know how troubled their relationship is, but what he’s done now will really be the last straw for Staten. But, in the middle of the family feud, Staten loses Quinn too, because she’s just tired of him being eager to react emotionally rather than rationally in a tough situation. But will they end up together in the second season? What will happen to Lauren and Lucas? And will Yancy be able to repair his relationship with Ellie?

Will Yancy Give Up His Land?

Will Ransom Canyon be back for Season 2? Showrunner reveals the answer

While Cap said he would sell his land before his death, Yancy tells Davis that he’s done with him and will not be selling. He plans on restoring the place and “saving” it so he can be buried next to his granddad and pops, too. By the end of the first season, he’s basically carved out a nice place for himself in the town, especially after helping out during the tornado. He then asks Ellie to marry him on the same night, saying he’ll wait for her at his granddad’s ranch with the priest and candles. But before Ellie can put on her white dress to rush to her Prince Charming, somebody pays her a surprise visit. The woman in question claims she’s Yancy’s wife, so here we are with yet another love triangle in Ransom Canyon.

At first, I thought Kai was mad that Ellie chose Yancy over him and decided to throw a wrench in the works; however, in retrospect, I think this is Davis’ doing again, because Yancy didn’t want to sell, and not having Ellie is the best way to get rid of him. In a conversation earlier between Yancy and Davis, Yancy told Davis he knows who he wants and didn’t shake the man’s hand. Now, we’ve got to wait and see if Ellie will forgive Yancy, but one thing is for sure, this will be a major conflict in the 2nd season of Ransom Canyon. Also, Davis, man, figure out some actual things to do rather than stooping to the personal level for business endeavors (smh). But, at the end of the day, Yancy has come to care for his granddad’s place. He’s eager to stay back in Ransom, and he genuinely loves Ellie, so I think he’ll fight for what’s his and keep it.

Will Staten Lose His Land?

I didn’t realize punching your brother-in-law at a bar could get you kicked off the board of your own ranch. Of course, this is not to say that violence is okay, but can one punch change the trajectory of a man’s life? At the end of the first season, Davis and Staten’s dad’s plan is to remove the guy as a trustee and then sell to Austin Water & Power. If the pipeline comes into Ransom, their entire town will be changed forever. Everybody knows what happens when outsiders take over what’s yours. It’s already happened with Gracie’s (apparently “no strings attached”), so it would only be a matter of time before the big company runs the place to the ground. I think in the second season we can imagine Staten and his dad going head-to-head. But this is not to say that Davis will take a backseat; he’ll be sitting front and center to watch Staten’s downfall. But this is, at the end of the day, a romance drama, so Staten will eventually get his land back, and Quinn too.

Will Reid Side With His Dad?

I quite enjoyed the Lucas and Reid dynamic in the first season, and it is good to see that boys can impact each other positively. I’d like to think it’s quite rare in television, but if it’s not, I’m glad. Anyway, Lucas keeps reminding Reid that he’s a good person, but Reid’s relationship with his dad is very important to him. So the question is, will he choose to side with his dad, or will he listen to Lucas and become a good person? Specifically, it’s the conversation Davis and Reid had at Cap’s wake that has me a little bit concerned about Reid. It all comes down to, will he choose to be a good person, or does he still just care about his dad’s approval?

What Will Quinn Do?

Quinn will go to New York, become famous, and Gracie’s will be saved. This one I’m pretty sure about, but the question is, how will Staten fit into all of this? It’ll be interesting to see if Quinn finds someone from out of town and actually lives a little for herself rather than for her dead friend or the man she fell in love with in high school. At least we know she won’t be with Davis again.

What Will Happen Between Lucas and Lauren?

I have a feeling that Margaret’s arrest might affect this relationship a little bit, even if Lucas basically said he’d do anything for Lauren. Lucas can get into the big schools, but Lauren will have to stay back in Ransom. I think they might put some distance between each other because family is very important to Lucas, but at the same time, the whole thing was Kit’s idea, so even if Lucas chooses to stay back with Lauren, I don’t think Kit would be mad. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of drama we’ll get between these two. I also think there’ll be a couple of new characters outside of Yancy’s wife, because what good’s a new season without new people to love or hate? What are your expectations for Ransom Canyon season 2?
