If you want to see more of Ramón Rodríguez during the wait for Will Trent season 4, the actor was in another pretty fun crime drama. Will Trent season 4 won’t be back on ABC with new episodes until sometime in 2026, as the network is holding the Karin Slaughter adaptation for mid-season.
The move worked well for the show in its third installment, putting more of a spotlight on the series at a time when there was relatively less going on in broadcast television.
One of the downsides of the wait is that it will be some time before viewers get to catch up with the Will Trent cast. After appearing alongside Viola Davis and Antony Starr in the recent Prime Video action thriller movie G20, Rodríguez doesn’t currently have any announced upcoming projects. But more than a decade before his current portrayal, the actor was part of the ABC line-up in a very different kind of crime drama.
Ramón Rodríguez Was In The Short-Lived Charlie’s Angels TV Remake
ABC’s remake of Charlie’s Angels debuted in September 2011. Continuing the same premise as the original, of three crime-fighting women for a mysterious man named Charlie, the short-lived primetime drama was created by Smallville’s Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The cast was led by Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, and Rachael Taylor, with Alias alum Victor Garber providing the voice of Charlie.
After a recurring role on The Wire as Renaldo and a main role in the short-lived series Day Break, Rodríguez played John Bosley in the ABC remake. Bosley is a crucial character in the overall Charlie’s Angels world, across the original and its various updates, playing a close confidant and assistant to the titular Charlie.
In the 2011 outing, Rodríguez’s version of Bosley is a former hacker. Thanks to Charlie, he’s saved from years behind bars due to tax fraud.
Although 13 episodes of the series were ordered, it was canceled after four due to low ratings. The series debuted with 8.76 million live viewers, then slid to just over 5 million viewers by the time the final episodes aired. In a sign of how things have changed in just ten years or so, owing to shifting viewer habits and the rise of streaming, these numbers might have been enough to secure a renewal for the remake if it happened today.
Charlie’s Angels Wasn’t Critically Well-Received, But It Was A Lot Of Fun
2011’s Charlie’s Angels was not a standout, getting negative reviews and struggling to find its footing right out of the gate.
However, there is still a lot to recommend it for because of the talent involved. The co-creators were behind Smallville and are currently the driving force behind the mega Netflix hit, Wednesday, which proves they can steer a successful series. That might have been Charlie’s Angels’ fate if it was given more room to grow.
Charlie’s Angels, at eight episodes, is the perfect quick and frothy summer watch to pick up until a new season of Will Trent rolls around…
The three leads were either already known for breakout roles or about to be. Ilonzeh will go on to play Emily Foster on the One Chicago series, and she was recently seen in S.W.A.T. opposite Shemar Moore. Kelly was already known for Friday Night Lights, playing the key part of Lyla Garrity.
Taylor will go on to play Trish Walker, the best friend of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in the Marvel drama. There’s even a guest appearance from The Last of Us leading Pedro Pascal to look out for. He appears in episode 5, portraying Mercer.
Why Charlie’s Angels Is The Perfect Show To Watch While You’re Waiting For Will Trent
A balanced pop culture diet is all about having different things to watch for different moods. Charlie’s Angels, at eight episodes, is the perfect quick and frothy summer watch to pick up until a new season of Will Trent rolls around.
It highlights a different facet of Rodríguez’s performance than the stony Trent, putting him somewhat on the other side of law enforcement, and it is generally a light viewing experience with familiar faces that delivers exactly what you would expect.
