Will Trent’ Season 3 Breakdown: Amanda’s Fate, Angie’s Baby & Ormewood’s Collapse Explained

In the wake of Will Trent season 3’s shocking penultimate episode, the finale comes out of the gate swinging as almost every character faces death and serious personal decisions amid a bioterrorism attack. The ABC police procedural series ends its third season with the GBI agents and APD detectives joining forces to stop a domestic terrorist group — the Founders Front. Unfortunately, for the Will Trent main characters, a deadly disease isn’t the only conflict they run into in season 3, episode 18, “Listening to a Heartbeat.”

In Will Trent season 3, episode 17, Angie learned she was pregnant with Seth’s baby. Meanwhile, Will discover who his biological father was after all these years of wondering who his parents could be, and Ormewood and Nico got trapped in the hospital after it went into quarantine to stop the spread of the bioterrorist group’s toxic bacteria. So, it’s safe to say that everyone had a lot on their minds heading into the finale. Sadly, not all of them may make it out alive after Will Trent season 3, episode 18.

How The Will Trent Team Stops The Terrorists
The good news is that the Will Trent season 3 characters stop the Founders Front and transfer an antitoxin to a hospital to prevent the deaths of hundreds of thousands. At the beginning of the finale, the team (including Will’s father, Sheriff Caleb Roussard) comes together to plan their next steps. Ormewood (somehow) gets cleared to leave the hospital to help his colleagues in the field. They split up, with Ormewood, Faith, and Lincoln transporting the CDC’s antitoxin to the hospital via a convoy, and everyone else trying to find the terrorists’ lab.

All the characters run into crossroads during their missions. Founders Front members ambush Ormewood, Faith, and Lincoln in the middle of the road. They hold off the criminals with the help of a girls’ archery team, who get caught in the crosshairs but come in handy when trying to take down the terrorists. The last criminal remaining almost shoots Ormewood, but Will arrives just in time to hit him with his car. They then get the antitoxin to the hospital, helping cure Nico, who had also been affected by the disease.

Meanwhile, another faction of the terrorist group storms into the GBI, holding Amanda hostage to secure the release of Vince. Luckily for her, Angie was in the bathroom when they raided the floor. Angie climbs through the air vents and gets Amanda’s attention, securing information that helps them stop the bad guys. While Angie, with Will’s gun, takes down many of the terrorists, one of them eludes the two women, resulting in a gunshot that could forever change Will Trent.

Amanda’s Life Hangs In The Balance After Getting Shot

One of the Founders Front members sneaks past the room where Amanda and Angie are taking cover in the Will Trent season 3 finale. Amanda sees him, tells Angie to get down, and shoots him. However, one last gunman takes advantage of this distraction to strike Amanda in the chest. Angie took him out before attending to Amanda. She calls for an ambulance and tries her hardest to stop the bleeding, but it’s not looking so good for the GBI Deputy Director.

At the hospital, Will learns from Angie that Amanda is out of surgery. Sadly, she isn’t out of the woods yet. Since the episode ends without any resolution regarding Amanda’s condition, she might die between seasons 3 and 4, marking Will Trent’s first major death. This would absolutely devastate Will, though, who has been through enough already. The finale ends with Will in Amanda’s hospital room, telling her, “I want you to be okay. Because you helped me to be okay… You are my family. So you need to wake up. You hear me? You better wake up.” Cue the tears.

Why Ormewood’s Life Is Also In Danger Heading Into Season 4
Since the doctors discovered that Ormewood had a brain tumor in Will Trent season 3, episode 14, one can’t help but worry about his fate. He comes close to dying in the season 3 finale before Will takes out the terrorist trying to shoot Ormewood. However, that brush with death is simply a red herring. Near the hour’s end, Ormewood is back at home, where his vision starts getting blurry. He collapsed, and Faith ran in. She calls an ambulance, thinking that her roommate is having a seizure.

So, Amanda isn’t the only Will Trent character that fans have to worry about heading into season 4. It’s unclear what exactly is happening to Ormewood, but his tumor is undoubtedly the cause of his collapse, which is quite scary. Hopefully, Ormewood’s episode only results in the doctors pushing up his surgery to get his tumor removed. On the other hand, though, it might be too late for Jake McLaughlin’s character in the ABC police procedural series.

Why Angie Chooses To Keep Her Baby (& What It Means For Her & Will’s Future)

The Will Trent season ends with many heartbreaks for Will, but the finale contains one positive for the protagonist. Will made it clear in episode 17 that he wanted nothing to do with his father, Sheriff Caleb Roussard, while the older man was interested in getting to know the son he never knew he had. Caleb manages to break through to Will in the finale when he explains the relationship he had with his mother, Lucy. The sheriff claims he loved Lucy and wanted to marry her. However, she disappeared before he could get a chance to pursue a future with her.

After learning this, Will is more open to letting Caleb in. The two men even plan to have dinner with Caleb’s family, which is amazing news for Will. He has been through so much over the course of the show’s three seasons, and he deserves happiness. Hopefully, Will and Caleb’s relationship will continue to grow in Will Trent season 4. Of course, they will likely run into some speed bumps, but they can develop a healthy dynamic, bringing some good into Will’s life.

How The Will Trent Season 3 Finale Sets Up Season 4

With Caleb’s introduction, Angie’s pregnancy, and Amanda and Ormewood’s lives hanging in the balance, season 3’s ending has set up Will Trent season 4 perfectly. The upcoming episodes can further explore Will and Caleb’s relationship, Angie preparing to have a baby with Seth, and what comes next for Amanda and Ormewood. If one of them dies, season 4 could also feature the other characters grieving them. Or, if they survive, Amanda and Ormewood’s future storylines could revolve around their recoveries. Whatever the case, Will Trent season 4 has a lot to work with.
