Will Trent Season 3 Finale Shocker: Angie’s Baby Choice Redefines Their Future

Will Trent showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen discuss what’s next for Angie, both as an expectant mother and in terms of her relationship with Will. The Will Trent season 3 finale saw Angie make a major decision as, after a near-death experience, she decided that she wanted to keep her baby. Following an ultrasound, which revealed that her unborn child had survived the ordeal, Angie and Seth share their love for each other. Although it was a happy moment for the expectant parents, the same couldn’t be told for Will, as he just lost the “love of his life.”

ScreenRant’s Rachel Foertsch and Grant Hermanns sat down with Heldens and Thomsen, and took the opportunity to ask them what Angie’s season 3 finale storyline meant for the show moving forward. They gave in-depth answers about the character’s future, with Heldens using her own experience as a parent to inform Angie’s storyline. The showrunners revealed that Angie becoming a mother will see her face a lot of internal challenges, and they gave insight into how they think she and Will will remain in each other’s lives. Check out excerpts from the exchange below:

ScreenRant: … It seems like [Angie] is keeping the baby. What would you say really solidified that decision for her during the finale?

Liz Heldens: We had a line that we took out where she’s in the airshaft, and she’s crawling along. We only took it out for time, but she’s like, “Alright, your little reverse psychology worked.” I think, when presented with the idea of losing the baby, it just made it very clear to her that she wanted the child. Even though it was not necessarily something she planned, or is going to be perfect in any way, she just decided that she wanted the child. And I am personally really excited to go on that journey with her.

ScreenRant: Is it possible that this will bring her some happiness going forward?

Liz Heldens: I think it’ll bring her something different going forward. I have two children. It’s a big, messy, hard, wonderful journey, and I am interested to see Angie’s life change and open up in a way that she can’t control as much as she can. She has her little way she relates to the men in her life, but I think having the story with her mother, and shining a light on what that relationship was like, and I think her resolution to do better by this child is really interesting. It’s a big challenge.

What This Means For Angie In Will Trent Season 4
Given how invested the showrunners are in Angie’s motherhood storyline, that will likely be the focus of the character going into Will Trent season 4. A big reason why Angie was so trepidatious about having a kid was because of her own traumatic childhood and broken relationship with her mother. But Dan Thomsen discussed how Angie is now ready to “break the cycle”, and is confidently moving forward into motherhood.

This likely means that any potential to get back together with Will is dashed — at least for a long time. With Seth in the picture, and Angie very happy with him, there’s no room for a romance with Will. But that doesn’t mean that Angie and Will are going to stay out of each other’s lives. Liz Heldens pointed out how good the Will Trent characters are on screen together, and said, “I don’t think they’re not going to be friends.” A platonic Angie and Will will definitely be interesting, but it could be great for their characters.

Our Take On If Angie & Will Are Endgame
If there’s one thing we can predict about Will Trent season 4, it’s that Angie and Will won’t have any romantic storylines. And that’s actually a good thing. They clearly have a lot to explore about themselves — Angie as a new mother, and Will getting to know Caleb, his biological father. However, that just means that they’re in a better position to end up together down the line.

The more people define themselves and learn who they are outside of relationships makes them even better for when they are ready to seriously commit to somebody. If we’re right, and Will Trent continues for many seasons, there’s every chance we’ll see Angie and Will reunite — this time for good.
