While Will Trent has certainly featured various deaths throughout its three seasons, it has never killed off a major figure, but after the season 3 finale, that may change. Since the beginning of the ABC police procedural series, Will Trent has had five main characters (six when including Betty) — Will Trent, Angie Polaski, Faith Mitchell, Amanda Wagner, and Michael Ormewood. The show added Gina Rodriguez’s Marion Alba to the main cast in season 3. However, her role in the series never came close to the other five.
Until Will Trent season 3, episode 18, all five characters have remained relatively safe. In the finale, though, Will, Angie, Faith, Amanda, and Ormewood face can die, and some still aren’t out of the woods heading into season 4. They attempt to stop a domestic terrorist group (Founders Front) from spreading a deadly disease during the hour. They split up, and unfortunately, they all ran into danger. Will and his father track down the criminals’ lab; Angie and Amanda fight off terrorists at the GBI; and Founders Front members ambush Faith and Ormewood while they’re transferring the antitoxin to the hospital.
Will Trent Season 3 Ends With Both Amanda & Ormewood On The Cusp Of Death
The Founders Front storms into the GBI during Will Trent season 3’s ending, asking for Amanda. They hold her hostage, demanding their friend’s release. What they don’t know is that Angie is in the bathroom when they arrive. After crawling through vents and causing distractions, Angie takes down some of the terrorists and shoots their leader in the head. She gets Amanda a weapon, and they continue holding off the gunman. Unfortunately, one slips by, and Amanda steps out from her cover to shoot him, which saves Angie’s life, but it also allows another shooter to strike Amanda in the chest.
The hour ends with Amanda still in critical condition at the hospital. Angie explains to Will that Amanda’s surgery was touch-and-go, and the next 48 hours are critical regarding her fate. So, by the time the credits roll, viewers are unsure whether Amanda will survive. Unfortunately, the same goes for Ormewood, meaning two major characters might die in Will Trent.
Ormewood almost died while he, Faith, and Lincoln were holding off terrorists themselves in Will Trent season 3, episode 18. However, just when one of the criminals is about to shoot Ormewood, Will hits the man with his car. Later, when Ormewood returns home, his vision starts to get blurry. He collapses on the floor and calls for Faith. She runs in and calls 9-1-1, thinking that her roommate is having a seizure (likely due to his brain tumor). And that’s how Will Trent season 3 ends, with Amanda in a coma and Ormewood convulsing on the floor.
Who Is More Likely To Die In Will Trent Season 4 – Amanda Or Ormewood?
Of course, the hope is that neither Amanda nor Ormewood dies in Will Trent season 4. If one were to, though, the more likely victim would be Amanda, just based on her condition at the end of the season 3 finale. Plus, the ABC series has been developing a couple of exciting storylines for Ormewood (his cancer journey and newfound single fatherhood), and it would be strange for them to end with his sudden death.
Ormewood will likely be rushed to the hospital in the Will Trent season 4 premiere (which won’t air until 2026, per TVLine), where they can stabilize him and hopefully prioritize his surgery to get his brain tumor out. As for Amanda, getting shot in the chest isn’t a good sign for her future in the show. Still, both Amanda and Ormewood may make it to the next season, but neither will be the same after their experiences in “Listening to a Heartbeat.”
What Losing Amanda and/or Ormewood Means For Will Trent Season 4
As mentioned above, Amanda and Ormewood have been main characters in Will Trent since the pilot. So, to lose either of them would be tragic. If Amanda were to die, Will would be completely devastated. As the audience learns in the season 3 finale, Will consider Amanda his family, and she means the world to him. Faith also sees Amanda as a mother figure, meaning she would be heartbroken. As the GBI’s Deputy Director, Amanda is also a leader and someone to look up to for many characters, and her death will have a ripple effect on the series.
In Ormewood’s case, the other Will Trent characters have grown to love him over the years. Consequently, they will all be affected by his death, especially Angie and Faith (and his kids, of course). Without Ormewood, Angie would need to find a new partner and Faith would need to find a new roommate. Without Amanda, the GBI would be looking for a new Deputy Director. Whatever the case, losing Amanda or Ormewood will forever change Will Trent.
