ABC is renewing four dramas and one comedy series, Variety reports.
The Disney-owned network has picked up new seasons of “9-1-1,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Rookie,” and “Will Trent,” as well as “Shifting Gears.” The renewals will bring “9-1-1” into Season 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” into Season 22, “The Rookie” into Season 8, “Shifting Gears” into Season 2, and “Will Trent” into Season 4.
ABC previously announced renewals for both “High Potential” and the hit comedy “Abbott Elementary.” That means the only current ABC show still awaiting a renewal announcement is “Doctor Odyssey.” ABC has decided not to order any pilots this season, but has ordered the “9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Nashville” straight to series, with Chris O’Donnell attached to the lead role.
Of today’s spinoffs, only “Shifting Gears” is being considered for a new season. The Tim Allen-Kat Dennings multi-camera drama has suffered a significant decline in viewership since its January debut. The show scored 7.8 million viewers in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings during its January premiere, while its March finale fell to 5.17 million viewers in the same time period.
That’s down about 33%, not counting streaming viewers. ABC has touted the show’s strong start on the streaming service, but has not released additional information about how it’s performing on Hulu since January.

However, ABC has no other comedy on its schedule other than “Abbott” next season, as “The Conners” is set to end this spring.
“Doctor Odyssey,” from Ryan Murphy and Disney’s 20th Television, is more expensive than a typical TV show, according to sources, and hasn’t made a big difference in the ratings. The cruise ship-set drama drew 5.96 million viewers on Live+7 during its September debut, while the most recent episode with data (March 20) drew 5.19 million viewers. ABC revealed again that the show’s first episode reached 16.5 million multiplatform viewers after 35 days, but it hasn’t drawn more viewers than that since November.
