Will Trent’s update confirms the new character will not return for the remainder of Season 3

The Will Trent update revealed that one of the show’s new characters, Marion Alba, is not expected to return for the rest of season 3. The character, played by Gina Rodriguez, only joined the show this season, but she has become one of the most prominent characters in recent episodes. Will Trent season 3 will air until the end of April, and the series has already been renewed for season 4.

According to TVLine, co-executive producer Liz Heldens shared that Marion is not expected to appear in the rest of Will Trent season 3. She explained that this season has the highest number of episodes on the show to date, which means there are opportunities to flesh out stories, but also that not every character can have a complete storyline. However, she also revealed that she wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Marion returning for Season 4. Check out Heldens’ full comments below:

Marion won’t be back before the end of the season. It’s funny… when we started [Season 3], we were like, ‘Oh, 18 episodes is the biggest order we’ve ever made!’ And then when we got to the end, we were like, ‘We don’t have enough time for everyone.’ I think Gina Rodriguez is fantastic. She’s a blast on screen. We love her. It was a great experience working with her, and I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of her coming back for Season 4.

What this means for Will Trent Season 3
Will Trent has a lot of complex storylines and a ton of interesting and compelling characters. However, the number of episodes is limited and there’s not enough time to cover all of them.

While Marion joins the cast of Will Trent Season 3 as a newcomer to the series, there are more pressing issues for the show to deal with right now, especially as the finale approaches. Marion won’t be involved in that after the pair split in episode 12, ensuring that the show will focus its attention elsewhere.

While it’s too early to tell whether Marion will be Will’s ultimate romantic interest, the pair have had a pretty popular (albeit somewhat divisive) relationship with viewers, and it’s great to see Will happy for the first time in a while.

However, since their breakup, Will has buried himself in work and withdrawn emotionally, meaning it may be a while before he’s ready to be vulnerable with Marion again, if ever. While the character won’t be returning in season 3, Heldens’ comments are certainly reason to be optimistic that she’ll be back in the future.

Our Feelings About Will Trent’s Future on Marion
Marion has been a great addition to Will’s personal life throughout the season, as she’s helped him come out of his shell. The character likely won’t be back in season 3, but with Will Trent season 4 on the way, there’s a very good chance Marion could return. Much will depend on Rodriguez’s availability, as well as the proper story development for the character, but the likelihood of her returning is very high.

Her romantic involvement with the main character isn’t necessarily a defining aspect of her storyline, but it seems like her role has been somewhat obscured since their breakup.

Season 3 has four episodes left, meaning there will be quite a long period of time where Will doesn’t interact with Marion and she doesn’t appear. Recently, it seemed like the main character’s romantic relationship with Angie (Erika Christensen) might resurface.

Although Will Trent ended season 2 with him arresting her, jeopardizing her career in the process. But, with them working together and having a previous romantic relationship, it seems like nothing is off the table.

However, it’s still a bit disappointing that Marion won’t appear for the rest of the season, as it leaves her character’s arc feeling incomplete in some ways. Her romantic relationship with the main character isn’t necessarily a deciding factor for her storyline, but it does seem like her role has faded since their breakup. This makes it somewhat disappointing that she won’t be involved in any more of Will Trent’s GBI cases, even if her busy work as an Assistant District Attorney provides another reason for her absence.

What Will Trent’s Romantic Future Look Like
Despite Marion’s absence, it seems that Will won’t be single for long. In Season 3, Episode 13, he realizes that his feelings for Angie have overshadowed any other emotions he’s feeling, even kissing her not long after this self-reflection.

While the pair have yet to get back together, Will and Angie’s relationship has been a mainstay of the show since its inception. This makes it likely that the duo will find a way to get back together, especially now that Marion is no longer around. At least be given a proper sendoff that has less to do with her romantic relationship. Even so, season 3 won’t see her in the forefront, unlikely to be setting the stage for her potential return.
