Jeremy Clarkson has been defended by Davina McCall after some fans of his hit Amazon Prime show Clarkson’s Farm accused the TV star of ‘making a joke’ out of farming
Davina McCall has come to Jeremy Clarkson’s aid, hitting back at suggestions that he is taking the mickey out of farming. The former Top Gear presenter, now 64, has been sharing his farming experiences on the Amazon Prime documentary series named ‘Clarkson’s Farm’.
The show presents how Clarkson and veteran farmer, Kaleb Cooper, wrangle with adverse weather conditions, bureaucratic hurdles, and various other challenges in their attempt to make the Oxfordshire-based Diddly Squat Farm profitable.
The topic emerged when Davina McCall stood in for Amanda Holden on Heart Breakfast while Ashley Roberts, the former Pussycat Doll and the programme’s showbiz host, was discussing the most recent news from the farm, reports the Express.
Ashley mentioned: “Kaleb Cooper has given us a little update on the Diddly Squat Farm. Muddy trails from the rain and all of the seeds that have sowed, it’s going to be a rough year.”
Initially apprehensive about the show’s continuation, Davina replied, “I was really worried there that something really bad was going to happen with Diddly Squat, [like] we weren’t going to get another series, but I think this is going to make the next series very dramatic.”
Later, she stressed: “I know people might think Jeremy Clarkson is making a joke out of farming but I think, actually what he is doing is showing us how tough it is.”
Most farmers seem to appreciate Clarkson’s efforts at Diddly Squat, with the National Farmers’ Union even naming him “farming champion” last year. Furthermore, Amanda Owen, the face of Our Yorkshire Farm, has implied previously that farmers “love” Jeremy.
Adding: “I’m absolutely sure of that because he highlights the problems of farming even under his umbrella of humour and doing it all wrong.”
Author and farmer James Rebanks also commended Clarkson for his “clowning around”, stating: “A lot of farmers are lads that like machines and they would have watched Top Gear and all the rest of it.”
Clarkson’s Farm has enjoyed three massively successful series on Amazon Prime Video, with season four currently in the works.
