Yaya DaCosta Gets Candid on April’s Chicago Med Farewell & Whether She’ll Return

Chicago Med began its run in November 2015 and has so far run for ten seasons. This suggests that many characters have appeared on the show, from guest stars to original characters who have since departed. Yaya DaCosta falls into the latter category with the actress playing April Sexton from season 1 until her initial exit in season 6. The character did returni to the show in a guest capacity in season 8. The medical drama is the third installment in the One Chicago universe, and DaCosta has recently discussed her time as part of the franchise and a potential return.

Discussing her time as part of the Chicago Med show, DaCosta, in an interview with TV Insider, reveaked that she was grateful and felt touched that April is a character that has stayed with the audience despite leaving the show many years ago. “It has been years, and I still get that so often. It warms my heart so much to know that even in an ensemble cast where every character was significant that people still felt the impact of April Sexton and still feel her absence even though the show continues. It moves me,” she explains.

Having returned in Season 8, for a short stint, it is not putlandish to think that the character might return at some point later on in the show. DaCosta discussed this probability and what her Season 8 return felt for her and her character, saying:

“I don’t foresee her returning to the show. I think when I left the first time, there wasn’t any effort put into nicely tying up the storyline. So, when Dr. [Ethan] Choi left, it was a great opportunity for me to come back for a few episodes, get married to him, and go off into the sunset on our mission. I really love that ending. I think it did feel like an ending.”

DaCosta Won’t Be Returning to Another Hit Show

Since her time as part of Chicago’s finest, DaCosta has been involved in other projects, including The Nice Guys and Our Kind of People, among others. Her most recent and memorable performance of late is as Andrea Freeman in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. The character arrived in the second season as the in-court adversary of the series lead, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). After their colossal clash ended, the character returned as the love interest of the Lincoln driving attorney. However, as we look ahead to a fourth season, it seems as though Andrea will not be returning. Speaking about the current state of events recently, DaCosta said,” “It was not expected. It was not explained,” she said. “Sometimes when things like this happen, the writers will give an explanation in a conversation between two characters who are on the show. Or someone will make a phone call and pretend the disappeared character is on the other end. Who knows what they’ll do?”
