A new Yellowstone set video reveals tighter script security after the Kevin Costner exit. The Taylor Sheridan-created series tells the story of the Dutton family ranch in Montana as they work to fight against others who are encroaching on their land. The series starred Kevin Costner in the original series, who later left the show. In addition to Costner, Yellowstone features a leading cast including Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Brecken Merrill.
Now, a new Yellowstone video from their official YouTube channel reveals how much security there was on the set of season 5, part 2. Asbille said that “this season has been very secretive,” while director Christina Voros added, “There was a lot of security around the script, and the narrative.” Jennifer Landon elaborated that she and the rest of the team would “get these redacted scripts. Basically everything [was] blacked out except for [each actor’s] lines.” Voros commended the crew for their commitment to changing their ways “for the sake of the audience.” Check out the video below:
What These Set Practices Mean For Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2
Yellowstone Season 5 Will Have A Lot Of Surprises
The secrecy could entail big surprises for the events in Yellowstone season 5, part 2. Further in the video, actor Denim Richards added that these set practices “add[] to a little bit more of a uniqueness,” as the “audience this year will really see real reactions.” Voros teases that audiences will be “seeing the cast at the absolute top of their game.” This extra security could also mean avoiding leaks, similar to how Marvel Studios conducted strict measures for the Avengers: Endgame script.
There are lots of questions going into season 5, part 2, including John Dutton’s fate and the franchise’s future. With Costner’s shocking exit, it is speculated that the Dutton patriarch could die in between the hiatus, as several previews seemed to imply that Grimes’ Rip would take over as the lead. The bigger question has also been whether the remaining characters will return in other spinoffs, such as The Madisons, meaning that the episodes could be setting up their future. However, nothing plot-specific has been confirmed yet, implying that the creative team wants to unravel these details once the series resumes.
Will This Strategy Work For The Yellowstone Conclusion?
Yellowstone Will Be Hurting From Kevin Costner’s Absence
So far, I would say that it’s fair to say that Yellowstone has been successful in keeping its upcoming events under wraps. This element of surprise will be crucial for the final episode, as the series will endure Costner’s exit. Therefore, Yellowstone will have to find other creative ways to keep the audience’s interest. This set video indicates that script security may just be the way to drive audience engagement, as it will keep the surprises going.
