‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off Has Become a Massive Global Streaming Hit

The Yellowstone universe is showing no signs of slowing down — even as its chapters close. Just three months after its final episode aired, Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 has become a global streaming sensation, thanks to a resurgence on Netflix. While 1923 is not available on Netflix in the U.S., Season 1 has landed in the Top 10 most-watched shows globally on the platform, currently sitting at #9. That streaming momentum follows a pattern set by its predecessor, 1883, which also found major international success after arriving on Netflix earlier this year. Sheridan’s Prohibition-era drama, fronted by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, is now finding new life with global audiences — even as the show wraps up for good.

1923 officially ended its run in April after Season 2, as the show was always intended to be a two-season story. Despite the absence of a third season, interest in the series — particularly its first season — has exploded. The Netflix release gave millions of viewers across the globe their first taste of Sheridan’s sweeping saga about the Dutton family during one of America’s most volatile historical moments. According to Netflix data, the show’s strong international performance is building directly off the success of the larger Yellowstone franchise. And the viewership numbers prove it:. The 1923 Season 2 finale drew 14 million global viewers, the highest of the series, whileYellowstone‘s own series finale, “Life Is a Promise,” had over 13 million viewers within three days of airing in late 2024. Not bad going. Even with mixed reviews for 1923’s second season — which faced criticism for pacing and tone — the momentum from its debut season has been enough to launch it into streaming stardom.

Why Is ‘1923’ Blowing Up?

It’s not hard to see why 1923 Season 1 is capturing global attention. With iconic leads like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren and sweeping storylines covering war, survival, and legacy in the American West, the show delivers both prestige drama and classic western grit. Add Sheridan’s trademark intensity and rich world-building, and it’s a binge-worthy formula — especially for international viewers hungry for high-end American storytelling. Netflix’s rollout strategy also helps. After the success of 1883, adding 1923 was a logical next step. That strategy is clearly working: both shows have now placed in Netflix’s global Top 10.
