The upcoming series will see the fan-favorite couple facing tough times and stiff competition, with Beth and Rip doing what they feel they have to do in order to succeed and survive. All the while, they’ll try to ensure Carter (Finn Little) grows up to become the man he’s supposed to be. A major name has now joined the returning trio.
Deadline confirms that Annette Bening has been cast in the upcoming Beth and Rip spinoff. The five-time Oscar nominee will play Beulah Jackson, who is described as the powerful and charming head of a major ranch in Texas.
Along with the casting of Bening, who received her first Academy Award nomination for 1991’s The Grifters, it was announced that Lawmen: Bass Reeves‘ Chad Feehan will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
What Bening’s Casting Means For The Beth & Rip Spinoff
Even though not many specifics are known about the Beth and Rip spinoff, it has been confirmed that the upcoming Paramount+ show will closely resemble the main Yellowstone series and take place in the present day. It comes after Beth faced off against her sibling, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), in the last episodes of Yellowstone, which ended in deadly fashion for Jamie.
From there, the popular pairing declared their love for one another and seemed to be on a strong path. It’s safe to say, based on the description, that Bening’s character will complicate the Beth and Rip ranch, at least professionally, and she’s an excellent choice to do just that.
Bening’s Oscar nominations for her movies include the leading roles in the films Nyad, The Kids Are All Right, and Being Julia, meaning she was nominated in the category for every decade since the 2000s. She was also nominated, as Leading Actress, for 1999’s American Beauty. Her first recognition, for The Grifters, was in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category.
Our Take On Bening’s Casting In The Beth & Rip Spinoff
As the Yellowstone franchise attempts to move beyond the death of John Dutton, it is diversifying within a somewhat narrow space. Beth and Rip’s drama is a romance at heart, Kayce’s spinoff is a military tale, and The Madison, Michelle Pfeiffer as Stacy Clyburn, has a bit of a city flair to it.
As it stands, the Beth and Rip spinoff does not have a release date or official title. There are still more casting announcements ahead, not to mention filming, but the addition of a celebrated performer to an established world will only amp up the interest.
