Will and Angie are growing further and further apart in Will Trent after his betrayal in the season 2 finale, and one new character proves that’s a good thing. ABC’s police procedural series revolves around Ramón Rodríguez’s Will, a highly skilled GBI agent with a tragic past — one that he shares with Angie. The two Will Trent main characters grew up in the foster system together. As a result, they formed a strong bond, which eventually turned romantic. However, Will and Angie’s relationship has been anything but steady, and they are finally moving on from each other in season 3.
Ever since they were teenagers, Will and Angie have been in a turbulent on-and-off relationship. Towards the end of Will Trent season 2, though, it seemed as if they might actually stay together (permanently) and have a future together. That dream came crashing down when Will discovered one of Angie’s monumental secrets. Now, in Will Trent season 3, the two are keeping their distance (at least, personally) as they come to terms with their new reality and find constructive ways to move on from their romance. By episode 8, it’s evident that Will and Angie’s breakup was for the best.
How Will’s Betrayal Led To His & Angie’s Break-Up
Will Arrested Angie
Will learns that Angie helped cover up Lenny Broussard’s death in the polarizing Will Trent season 2 finale. Crystal murdered him in season 1, but Angie rearranged the crime scene to protect the young girl and make it look like the APD detective killed Lenny out of self-defense. So, Will had a choice to make. He could either continue the lie or turn Angie in for her crimes. Ultimately, Will chose his duty to the law and arrested the so-called “love of his life” for tampering with evidence and making false statements concerning the murder of Lenny.
The Will Trent season 3 premiere picks up six months later, and viewers learn that a lenient judge dismissed Angie’s charges and Will ran away to Tennessee. Will eventually returns to Atlanta, while Angie gets her job back in Will Trent season 3. At a crime scene, the broken-up couple finally reunites for the first time since he arrested her in episode 4. However, Angie makes it clear that they can never be lovers again. She will never be able to get over his betrayal, and Will understands that, which is why they are both moving on.
Seth Is A Much Better Match For Angie In Will Trent Season 3
Episode 8 Introduces Scott Foley’s Character
The introduction of Scott Foley’s Dr. Seth McDale all but confirms the end of Will and Angie’s relationship in Will Trent season 3. Foley’s character is Angie’s new love interest, who she meets on the side of the road. A car hits Seth while he’s on his bike, and he injures his hand. So, Angie offers to take him to the hospital, where sparks begin to fly between them. Perhaps their first meeting isn’t the most romantic, but Angie and Seth’s subsequent chemistry makes up for the unfortunate circumstances that led to them coming together.
Even though he has only been around for one Will Trent season 3 episode, Seth is already a better match for Angie than Will. Angie has too much history (not the good kind) with Will, and they have proven time and time again why they don’t work together. Meanwhile, Angie can start from scratch with Seth. He appears to be a good guy who can push Angie to be a better person and help her let go of Will.
