Young Sheldon EP Reveals Whether Season 7 Will Show George’s Death

Young Sheldon executive producer finally reveals whether season 7 will potentially show George’s death in the comedy’s final set of episodes.
A new story update for Young Sheldon season 7 reveals whether George Sr.’s death will happen in the final episodes. Sheldon’s family all made physical appearances in The Big Bang Theory except for his father because he was long dead before the events of the nerd-centric sitcom. Some details were revealed about the Young Sheldon character’s demise, but specifics about the tragedy have remained under the lid. Before it ends, however, there’s interest in knowing if the sitcom will address the matter.
In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Steve Holland confirmed that Young Sheldon season 7 will show George’s death. He doesn’t get into specifics on how they are planning on handling the tragedy, but it’s all to stick to The Big Bang Theory’s established canon. Read his comments below:

“I don’t want to say what you will or won’t see, but things will get resolved. We are not beholden to every joke that was ever made on The Big Bang Theory, but we do feel beholden to the larger canon and the larger events that shape Sheldon’s life. We want to honor those.”

“Absolutely not. That is a thing that happens in Sheldon’s life. This is the same character [from Big Bang]. We are living in the same universe as Big Bang and that arrangement of world building is important. Big things that [Adult Sheldon said] happened in his life without a doubt happened.”

Why Young Sheldon Could Not Escape George’s Death
For years, Young Sheldon has been cherry-picking plots previously revealed in The Big Bang Theory, resulting in millions plot inconsistencies of varying degrees. The prequel infamously ignored George’s cheating scandal — one of the most shocking reveals in the sitcom about Sheldon catching his dad being in bed with another woman. The incident was supposed to happen in season 6, but that didn’t happen. Unfortunately, the spinoff cannot just gloss over George’s demise as it did with his affair.
The CBS comedy will essentially continue with Mandy and Georgie’s upcoming spinoff, which means that the future of the Coopers will continue to play out on the screen. Before the offshoot’s announcement, the prequel show could have simply ended just before George’s demise. This way, it could have wrapped up with a happy ending involving the complete family. However, that can no longer be the case since the tragedy spells out the futures of Georgie, Missy, and even Sheldon. It makes it impossible for Young Sheldon to skip George’s death without breaking canon.
The question now is when George’s death will go down. CBS needs to be mindful of when they will execute the tragedy since doing it too late or too early can significantly impact the remainder of the year. It also doesn’t help that Young Sheldon season 7 will only have 14 episodes, which means that George has much less time to spend with his family before he passes away.
