Young Sheldon Has One Last Chance To Make Up For Its Worst Big Bang Theory Finale Crime

The Big Bang Theory finale disrespected a particular aspect of Sheldon’s childhood, and Young Sheldon season 7 has one last chance to fix it.
Young Sheldon season 7 is the final time that it can make amends for The Big Bang Theory’s worst finale mistake. Despite an unevenly paced season 12, The Big Bang Theory finale delivered a satisfying and even emotional send-off to the Pasadena gang. If there was any doubt previously about Sheldon’s place in the series, the two-part capper crystallized the idea that he was the show’s true lead, with its storyline mainly revolving around his bidding and eventual winning of the Nobel Prize in Physics with his wife, Amy for their Super Asymmetry paper.
Throughout The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon talked about wanting to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, and Young Sheldon subsequently revealed that it was the character’s lifelong dream. As smart as he was, however, he couldn’t have done it without many people, and surprisingly, he made sure to thank them during his poignant speech. The rest of the Coopers weren’t in attendance; instead, it was his friends who were with him — a creative choice to highlight the core messaging of The Big Bang Theory. Unfortunately, there was one special person that he forgot to mention during his speech — Dr. Sturgis.

Young Sheldon Season 7 Must Highlight Sheldon & Sturgis’ Relationship
Sheldon fails to thank Dr. Sturgis in his Nobel Prize speech despite being his first mentor and the person who introduced him to theoretical physicists is a big disrespect to the character. He was instrumental in not only honing Sheldon’s love of science, but also in carving the path for his future. Had it not been for him, Sheldon wouldn’t have been able to score the Germany study grant that he went to in the Young Sheldon season 6 finale. The Big Bang Theory cannot change the way it handled its finale, but the spinoff can amend this particular crime.

What happened in The Big Bang Theory can no longer be changed, but Young Sheldon can make up to Dr. Sturgus by highlighting his relationship with Sheldon in the prequel’s final season. The CBS premier comedy can see the pair team up for one last time before the boy genius finishes his stint in Texas and moves to California for his post-graduation studies. It has been a while since the pair worked on something big together. While they spend time with each other at East Texas Tech, they’re often joined by Dr. Linkletter, who has been horrible to Sheldon.
Adult Sheldon Can Give Sturgis The Credit He Deserves
Besides giving Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis a final adventure, Young Sheldon can further this effort by using its unique voice-over storytelling trick. Jim Parsons’ adult Sheldon’s narration can re-affirm the impact that Dr. Sturgis has had in his life. So while it will not change the fact that he didn’t acknowledge all the help and guidance that Dr. Sturgis gave him, hearing how remorseful adult Sheldon is about not thanking his original mentor would be a great way to finally give Dr. Sturgis the credit that he deserves.
