Young Sheldon stars Emily Osment and Montana Jordan share a new update for CBS’s next Big Bang Theory spinoff.
Young Sheldon stars Emily Osment and Montana Jordan have revealed a major update about their untitled Georgie and Mandy spinoff series. This comes ahead of the original sitcom’s impending series finale on May 16, 2024.
During a recent interview with ET, Osment and Jordan expressed their excitement for the upcoming Young Sheldon spinoff, while also confirming that CBS is currently planning to start production this coming summer. “We’re so excited, I just can’t wait,” Osment said. “We’re starting in July, I think, and we’re kind of a little blown away by all the people that are around us right now, and the fact that we get to do this because this amazing show is so great.” Even though the filming start date for the new series had already been set, Jordana shared that they haven’t actually read the scripts yet.
Last March 5, CBS officially gave a series order to its first Young Sheldon spinoff, which will continue the story of Sheldon’s brother Georgie and Mandy McAllister, who are expected to tie the knot in the seventh and final season of Young Sheldon. Jordan has played Georgie since he was 14 years old, while Osment was first introduced in Season 5 as Georgie’s 29-year-old girlfriend. In the original Big Bang Theory series, Jerry O’Connell portrayed the grown-up version of Georgie Cooper.
The untitled spinoff will once again be created and executive produced by The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon team: Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland. At the moment, Jordan and Osment are the only confirmed cast members for the new series, which is expected to debut during the 2024-2025 broadcast season. The official logline for the new show reads, “the sequel follows Georgie (Jordan) and Mandy (Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.”
Young Sheldon Finale Will Feature Big Bang Theory Characters
In the upcoming series finale of Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory vets Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik have signed on to reprise their iconic roles as Sheldon and Amy, respectively. According to Parsons, he and Bialik have already completed filming their long-awaited cameo appearance. “It was even more beautiful than I expected it to be,” he said. “One of the reasons I was excited to do it is because what they wrote is so sweet, and I think they worked Mayim and I into that show so beautifully. I hope everyone agrees. But also, for us, the way that they tape — because they’re a single-camera show, and we’re multi-camera — the whole look of the show was a really special experience. To get to go with Mayim, in a world we’re really guests and revisit these characters a little older, just a completely different circumstance.”
