Young Sheldon Star Has The Best Idea To Address Georgie & Mandy’s TBBT Canon Problem

Ahead of her spinoff, Young Sheldon star Emily Osment offers the perfect way to solve Georgie and Mandy’s The Big Bang Theory canon problem.
Young Sheldon star Emily Osment offers the best way to solve Georgie and Mandy’s biggest The Big Bang Theory canon problem. Sheldon and the Coopers’ collective story is ending when Young Sheldon wraps up its run next month. Amid the initial disappointment of this development, especially since the show’s storytelling has been solid in the last year, CBS is able to skirt around losing their premier comedy by greenlighting a sequel show that focuses on Georgie and Mandy’s adventures post-Young Sheldon as newlyweds and parents to Baby Cece. However, The Big Bang Theory canon mandates that Mandy and Georgie eventually divorce.
When asked about this in a new interview with TVLine, Emily Osment offers the best way to solve this dilemma. Read her full quote below:

I’m hoping that I’m the ex-wife and the new wife. People get divorced and then get remarried. Why can’t you be both?
Why Young Sheldon’s Georgie and Mandy Need To Stay Together In The Future
It’s One Of The Biggest Mysteries In The Upcoming Young Sheldon Sequel Show.

The immediate success of Young Sheldon when it debuted in 2017 was fueled by its ties to The Big Bang Theory. It was a great move to expand the universe by focusing on the origin story of its most popular character, Sheldon. Over the years, however, its ties to the nerd-centric sitcom became more of an issue instead of being advantageous. It limits what the prequel can do with its storytelling. In the end, the mothership show is even the reason why Young Sheldon has to end with just seven seasons despite still being very popular.

Amid everything that has happened in the show, Georgie and Mandy’s romance is one of, if not the best, original arcs that Young Sheldon has been able to develop. The pair’s unexpected arc has been full of ups and downs but has been ultimately gratifying, especially as the Young Sheldon characters tie the knot in season 7. The thought of the pair not ending up together dampens the enthusiasm surrounding their narrative, but continuing their story suggests that the show creatives recognize their potential. Part of that is finding a way to ensure that they are endgame.
It’s curious if CBS is planning to establish Mandy and Georgie’s fate in the future early on or if it will be a lingering question throughout their show. It’s a great hook that could keep people invested, especially if it’s going to be a central mystery as they navigate their new life as a newly-married couple. The Young Sheldon finale can resolve the issue, considering that it will feature adult Sheldon with the return of Jim Parsons.
