Johnny Galecki has reportedly signed on to join the third installment of Paramount’s The Ring franchise, Rings, in a leading role.
Deadline says Galecki will play Gabriel, “a handsome, pleasure seeking professor” who mentors the lead couple. The role is said to be a complete departure from Galecki’s work as Leonard on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory.

Galecki joins the already cast main couple, Alex Roe (Holt) and Matilda Lutz (Julia). The third installment is helmed by F. Javier Gutierrez from a script penned by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), David Loucka (Dream House) and Jacob Aaron Estes (The Details).
Earlier reports suggested that this installment in the franchise about a cursed video would actually be a prequel set before the 2002 remake. The second installment, The Ring Two, was released in 2005.
Filming on Rings is already underway. It’s slated for a November 13, 2015 release.
