She had her moment in the spotlight in the third season, when not only was her secret identity unmasked, but Penelope also found love with her lifelong crush Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

When it was Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) turn to take centre stage in season four, Penelope and her new husband took a back seat, much like all the previous couples before them.Now, Irish star Nicola Coughlan has shed light on her future on the beloved Netflix romantic drama.

The 39-year-old appeared on This Morning alongside her Big Mood co-star Lydia West to discuss season two. Host Cat Deeley seized the opportunity to quiz Coughlan on whether she would be returning for the forthcoming season. Coughlan replied: “I’ll be popping in and out. As long as they want me to be there, I’ll be there.

“It’s really nice because it feels so easy for me.”I just come in and I’m like ‘Hey everyone!’, have a lovely few days and ‘see you in like two months!’ It’s like the best, it’s a dream.”

When Bridgerton returns for Season 5, which is pencilled in for either a late 2027 or early 2028 release, all attention will be firmly fixed on the show’s first queer love story.

Following the sudden passing of her husband Sir John Stirling (Victor Alli) in Series 4, Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) pledged to remain unmarried.

Yet the moment she encountered John’s cousin Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), it became apparent that the pair shared an undeniable chemistry, which looks set to be explored further in the forthcoming episodes.
