Chicago Fire fans have fallen in love paramedic pals Violet Mikami and Lizzy Novak, but drama awaits them.

The drama has been firing off on all cylinders as Season 14 of Chicago Fire heats up with a steamy love triangle.
Paramedics Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and Lizzy Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) boast a steel-tight bond. Whether they’re hanging out at Molly’s after a hard shift or connecting over the Firehouse 51 craziness, Violet and Novak have become a One Chicago dynamite duo, but Season 14 has thrown a curveball at the paramedic friends: 51 newcomer Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente).
From the moment Vasquez introduced himself to the station, Novak made it clear she had the hots for the CFD heart throb, connecting with Violet over her workplace crush. However, after Novak struck up a fun fling with Chicago Med heartthrob Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet), the chemistry between Violet and Vasquez started simmering. Violet and Vasquez’s romantic tension reached a boiling point, culminating in an enjoyable one-night stand.
But after Novak revealed she and Frost were just a fling and she still harbored lingering feelings for Vasquez, Violet was left with an awkward confrontation on her hands. A girl’s girl to her core, Violet finally came clean about the hook-up to Novak, admitting it was a one-time thing and wouldn’t happen again. Novak was hurt about the prolonged secrecy, but ultimately understood.
NBC Insider chatted with Hanako Greensmith and Jocelyn Hudon about the Firehouse 51 love triangle and how it’s thrown a wrench in the paramedics’ happy harmony, and they assure fans: the Violet-Novak dream team isn’t going anywhere.

Love triangles among friends are always a crucible for chaos, so Violet was relieved to get her hook-up with Vasquez off her chest. While she’s tabled those feelings she had for Vasquez, she has no interest in swooping in on one of her best friends’ interests. Violet isn’t panicking over losing Vasquez; she’s worried about losing Novak.
Greensmith reveals that Violet’s feelings for Vasquez have been tossed to the wayside as she makes sure Novak understands she wouldn’t have made a move on Vasquez had she known her and Frost weren’t serious.

“I honestly think that Violet’s not trying to give it the time of day right now. I think what she knows is true is that her best friend has feelings for him…” Greensmith told NBC Insider. “So I think there’s still a lot to be discovered on what’s authentically going on beneath the surface.”
While Novak initially struggled to process the news about Violet and Vasquez’s rendezvous, Hudon confirms that Novak is just as determined not to let a man get in between her and Violet.
“I think the most important thing for Violet and Novak is their friendship over everything else,” Hudon said. “So I think their friendship might get tested a little bit, but I think both of them, they know what is really important.”
“You’ll see that put to the test and you’ll see them overcome that,” Hudon teased, adding that Season 14, Episode 18 (“Instinct”) will explore that dynamic further.
The logline for the must-watch Chicago Fire episode – airing April 22 on NBC – reads: “While in the field, Violet and Novak are thrust into a dangerous and rapidly escalating situation, forcing them to rely on their instincts to protect both themselves and a vulnerable patient.”
