From Cast Reactions to Release Plans: Boston Blue Season 2 Is Heating Up ma01

There’s something to be said about a show like Boston Blue, where its passionate fandom has allowed the characters at the helm of the show to continue evolving year after year. Blue Bloods, which debuted in 2010, followed the Reagans—a prominent New York City law enforcement family brought to life by Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes and more. When the show concluded in 2024, fans simply weren’t ready to say goodbye—and so became Boston Blue.

Boston Blue stars Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan yet again, though in this popular spinoff, he’s taking his skills to Beantown as he takes on a job with the Boston Police Department and teams up with Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. Back in December, Boston Blue was renewed for a second season, and the cast have spoken out about the exciting second chapter. Here, read all about their reactions and what’s possibly in store for Season 2.

‘Boston Blue’ Season 2 will likely be full of action

While the first season of Boston Blue was first rolling out, CBS announced that the show would be getting a second season alongside Sheriff Country, another hit CBS procedural.

“These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.

Since this announcement, Season 1 of Boston Blue continues to air, diving into stories and plots with themes of family and duty—similar to Blue Bloods. Because the season is still unfolding, only time will tell exactly what’s to come in Season 2, but the cast and crew are thrilled at the prospect of bringing the next chapter to life.

Donnie Wahlberg reacts to ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2

And when I called Jenny [McCarthy] and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”

The actor further detailed the special moment in which he revealed the news to his costars during an appearance on CBS Mornings“That reaction—It’s a dream to work with a cast like that that cares that much,” he gushed. “It is a job, it is our livelihood, but sometimes, you just get in the right situation with the right crew who really feel passionate about something, and this group, we’re just blessed.

When does ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2 come out?

While no specific release date has been revealed just yet, Season 2 has been confirmed for 2026-2027.

For fans who fell in love with the Reagan family all those years ago, Boston Blue Season 2 is proof that great characters and compelling stories never really end—they just find new adventures. And if the cast’s emotional reactions are any indication, Season 2 is going to be worth the wait.
