There has been a major shake-up behind the scenes

Beloved 98% rated crime drama could be heading in a new direction.

The studios behind the massively popular series High Potential have announced a significant shake-up behind the scenes ahead of season three.

Before filming on new episodes begins, a momentous decision has been taken that could shape the future trajectory of the show.

Season two of Disney+’s smash-hit crime drama concluded in the most dramatic of fashions.

Not only were several mysteries left unresolved, but the fate of one character was also left in the balance, leaving countless fans on edge.

High Potential is actually based on the French Belgian series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI).

Much like that show’s premise, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Kaitlin Olson portrays Morgan, a single mother with an extraordinary intellect, whose unorthodox talent for cracking crimes leads to an unlikely and formidable partnership with a straight-laced, experienced detective.

Viewers have relished watching her tackle a fresh case each week, while remaining gripped by her blossoming relationships and the overarching storyline surrounding what became of her ex-husband. That particular thread is yet to be tied up, reports the Mirror.

The series was created for US television by Drew Goddard, who previously contributed to programmes including The Good Place, Lost and Netflix’s Daredevil. Goddard also wrote the screenplay for the recent blockbuster sci-fi adaptation Project Hail Mary.

Todd Harthan served as showrunner across the first two seasons, with previous credits including The Resident and 911 Lonestar.

However, Harthan confirmed he would be stepping down from his role on High Potential following the season two finale, departing to focus on upcoming series Eragon, which will also air on Disney+.

His successors have now been revealed. According to Deadline, sisters Lila and Nora Zuckerman are set to take the reins as showrunners for season three.

The duo most recently helmed the debut season of crime drama Poker Face, which was created by Star Wars and Knives Out director Rian Johnson. The show bore certain similarities to High Potential, centring on a fresh murder case each week with a female protagonist.

Natasha Lyonne’s character, however, possessed an inexplicable ability to detect whenever someone was being dishonest. The series earned an impressive 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just one point below High Potential.

The Zuckermans’ additional credits encompass Suits and Agents of Shield, and the pair were previously attached to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot before it was axed.

Lilla and Nora Zuckerman said of their new roles: “We are so grateful to be working with Craig, Karey, Simran and our partners at 20th and ABC on this exciting new chapter of High Potential. The fact we get to collaborate with Drew, Sarah and Andrea at Goddard Textiles and the incomparable Kaitlin Olson is a dream come true.

“We’re looking forward to climbing into the brilliant, bustling mind of Morgan Gillory and crafting intricate mysteries worthy of her genius.”
