Hollywood shock: Talented actress Jennifer Esposito suddenly passed away md20

Donnie Wahlberg made sure Boston Blue’s season 2 renewal was a moment his cast would never forget.

While attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood last week, Wahlberg, 56, revealed to PEOPLE that he took it upon himself to deliver the news directly to his costars.

“I had the pleasure of calling all my castmates and telling them… that we were getting a season two,” Wahlberg said.

The moment, he shared, quickly turned emotional.

“And I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them, and so did I,” he continued. “And when I called Jenny [McCarthy] and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”

Wahlberg, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, explained that making those calls was something he specifically requested.

“Well, I’m an EP too, so I said as one of the EPs, I’d like to be the one to tell them. And everyone agreed,” he said.

His wife, Jenny McCarthy, who stood proudly by his side on the red carpet, joked that they also marked the exciting news in their own way.

“Oh, we did. We just did a little jig,” she said, as Wahlberg added, “We might have cried a little.”

Beyond the big TV news, the couple was also soaking up the energy of the night — particularly the lineup of legendary performers being honored.

“We’re always honored, always excited,” McCarthy told PEOPLE. “Like we said, especially as we get older, it’s like, we’re still involved.”

“He’s heavily involved in music. I’m still on TV, but we love iHeart,” the Masked Singer judge continued. “We love what it represents. And knowing that Salt-N-Pepa, TLC, En Vogue, they’re going to be performing? Come on!”

“Incredible. Incredible,” Wahlberg added.

The New Kids on the Block member reflected on his long history with the iconic groups, revealing that he’s crossed paths with many of them over the years.

“Oh my gosh. Oh, I’ve toured with all of them. I’ve toured with all of them,” he said.

Looking back on the ‘90s era, Wahlberg emphasized the lasting impact those artists had on the industry.

“These are iconic artists, and people forget what they all did in this industry,” he said. “They had moments and long periods where they were really breaking down barriers and changing the game.”

He continued, adding, “And I think people forgot about the impact they had. And I think tonight is the start of them reminding everybody how awesome all those ladies were.”
