While our long summers at Cousins Beach might be over, fans are now gearing up for something a little bit shorter with the impending arrival of a feature-length continuation. Announced back in September, the cinematic tag, which is in the works at Amazon MGM, will pick up with Belly and her life abroad in Paris before following her return to the beach house alongside her forever love, Conrad. With further details being kept under wraps, fans have been hungry for any sort of information that will make their trip back to the sunshine and warmth of The Summer I Turned Pretty speedier. Luckily, while chatting with Tung about her upcoming dark comedy horror flick, Forbidden Fruits, ahead of its world premiere at SXSW, Collider’s Perri Nemiroff gathered some intel about the eagerly-awaited film.
‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Film Is Still in Early Stages

Looking back on the massive success that found its way to The Summer I Turned Pretty thanks to its foundational novels, Tung said, “We had three books for the seasons, so there was so much material there already. So, I think a TV show was perfect for that.” Revealing that she’s “excited about the movie,” Tung admitted that things are still very much in the early stages, adding, “I still haven’t read a script or anything, so it’s cool kind of just going into it. Our showrunner and the writer, the author of the books, Jenny Han, is writing the movie, which is really amazing because she has such a great mind and is always so thoughtful when it comes to writing the scripts, so I’m very excited to see what it ends up being.”
