Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Gets Major Return Update

Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty became a major pop phenomenon in 2025. While the series had been on the air since 2022, nothing brings together the internet like a good old-fashioned love triangle.

The summer of 2025 was all about Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah, as the protagonist, Belly Conklin, had to choose between the Fisher brothers. Based on Jenny Han’s trilogy of the same name, the series officially ended after Season 3 as Belly made her choice. However, a movie was announced after the finale, and Deadline just gave an exciting update on its return.

Season 3 officially concluded on Sept. 17, and the movie finale was announced on the same day, which will serve as a direct continuation. Per the outlet, The Summer I Turned Pretty movie will officially begin filming on Apr. 27, and shooting is expected to last for three seasons.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Met With Resistance Due to Salary Disputes

The cast, including Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno, will return, alongside the rest of the fan-favorite characters. However, that is despite a salary issue involving the young cast.

Jenny Han also acted as the creator and showrunner of the series, which originally started as a modest series, but it quickly became popular and turned into a true pop culture phenomenon in Season 3.

As Tung, Briney, and Casalegno have become popular thanks to the hit rom-com series, they weren’t the best-paid actors on the show, as their paycheck was bigger. The lead stars, as well as Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer, who played Steven and Taylor, respectively, negotiated salary bumps ahead of Season 3. They reportedly started with a paycheck of around $35,000 to $40,000 per episode in Season 1.

The report claims that the negotiations were underway when the leads were asked to commit to a movie, and the reaction wasn’t instantly exciting. The request was reportedly “met with resistance,” as some of them were not willing to do it, but “were told that they would only get salary bumps if they sign up for the movie.”

Season 3’s Popularity Wasn’t Enough to Renegotiate the Movie Salary

The indie studio Wiip, which produced The Summer I Turned Pretty, was holding firm on the request for a movie finale, and the leads felt “forced” to accept the modified terms in order not to lose their raises for Season 3. Their new paychecks were around $100k per episode, with the lead, Lola Tung, believed to have made more than her male co-stars.

For the upcoming The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, the actors are allegedly paid three episodic fees to do it. Following the success, their reps reached out to get salary increases (or bonuses), but were denied.

The Summer I Turned Pretty movie doesn’t have a release date.
