The BBC has confirmed the release date for season two of St Denis Medical. Set in the emergency department at St Denis Medical Center in Oregon, the mockumentary series follows nurse Alex (Allison Tolman) as she is promoted to Supervising Nurse and joins an eclectic team.
On Instagram, the BBC posted a promotional image of the sitcom, confirming that the new season will arrive on BBC iPlayer on 1 May. Season two has already aired in the US, while season one is currently available on iPlayer.
They captioned the post: “The gang are back and less equipped than ever! #StDenisMedical #Hospital.
“It’s quite the operation. The eclectic team of dedicated medical staff are trying their best – have they got the patience for their patients? US comedy from the makers of Superstore.”
Joining Tolman on the cast are Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, Kahyun Kim, Kaliko Kauahi, and David Alan Grier, among others.
The show boasts an impressive 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 27 reviews, with critics comparing it to The Office.
“Just when you thought there were too many mockumentaries on television, we get St Denis Medical, an Office-lite look at the healthcare industry that’s more than a little funny,” wrote Sioux City Journal.
“St Denis Medical brims with heart… the staff members view each other as a found family and are determined to solve problems together,” said LatinaMedia.co.
The Wrap said of the show: “It’s a gentle, familiar-feeling show, and while it really works when it finds spiky, surprising and even uncomfortable ruffles to the formula, it plays pretty well when it’s just pulling it off too.”
“St Denis Medical feels familiar, but it radiates an infectious energy all its own. Like a patient who bounces back from a code blue, it’s here to remind us that when done right, network sitcoms have a lot of life left in them,” penned Decider.
Season 2 of St Denis Medical is released on BBC iPlayer on 1 May.
