Season 13 of Chicago P.D. has been jam-packed with twists and turns, and the squad was just led on a winding case upon the thrilling return of one of the squad’s most reluctant allies, Rabbit (Brandon Gill).
Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) was forced to get creative in his criminal takedown during Season 13, Episode 17’s “Partners” after witnessing an ATM robbery gone wrong. After the thieves’ getaway car struck and killed a civilian, Voight eagerly tracked down the ATM’s tracker signal’s location and was shocked to discover an injured Rabbit next to the ATM inside a random home. Recognizing Rabbit as his former informant, Voight was furious over his involvement in the crime, but Rabbit was keen to clarify his innocence in the robberies: He was just the “cracker,” the wise-guy who cracks open the ATMS to gank the cash inside. Rabbit’s latest ATM operation hadn’t gone too well, as he’d injured himself while failing to force it open.

Yet again, Voight had caught Rabbit in a sticky situation, leveraging the petty criminal’s shady business connections for assistance on a blood-pumping case. Never one to relinquish his services without a cost, Rabbit always gives the squad a run for their money while lending them a hand.
Who is Rabbit on Chicago P.D.?
Gill’s Rabbit first appeared as a seedy drug dealer selling dope for a nefarious supplier lacing the supply, and he wasn’t thrilled about the conspiracy. Voight ran into Rabbit during his investigation into the gang, eventually learning from the loose-lipped Rabbit about a deal-gone-wrong at a trap house.
After disclosing details about the blood bath with the Intelligence Unit, Rabbit begrudgingly agreed to work with Voight as a criminal informant. Rabbit was fearful of being found out by his seedy colleagues, giving Voight the scantest of intel to nudge the case along. After being threatened by gang members who’d discovered Rabbit was working with authorities, Rabbit began helping Voight track down and arrest the perpetrator, Troy Patrick.

After Rabbit wore a wire and visited the gang’s trap house to confirm the dope’s location, the undercover mission turned south after Rabbit was shot in the chest. The Intelligence Unit successfully arrested Troy and the other dealers as Rabbit was whisked away to the hospital, fortunately recovering from his injuries. And that wouldn’t be the last we saw of Rabbit.
Voight crossed paths with Rabbit again in Season 12’s finale “Vows” after calling in a favor for his old “friend.” After tracking down his former informant for his help on a case, Rabbit was initially uninterested in helping Voight; he was shot the last time he lent his assistance. After feigning ignorance over the identity of a drug dealer, Voight saw through Rabbit’s ruse, eventually recruiting his full-fledged assistance.
After bringing Voight to one of the dealer’s hangout spots, Rabbit revealed that he’d been clean for several months. Voight was able to lock eyes with his desired target, paying Rabbit for his time and telling him to leave discreetly. Rabbit remained jaded toward Voight after being recruited yet again in Season 13’s “Partners,” but his reluctant assistance led to a break in the case.
