It’s no surprise that ABC gave another year to Will Trent after the emotional roller coaster ride that was Season 4. Will (Ramón Rodriguez) faced the abduction of his uncle. Angie (Erika Christensen) and Seth (Scott Foley) got married and are about to have a baby. Faith (Iantha Richardson) had her heart broken. James Ulster (Greg Germann) popped up in a most unusual way, but the major heartbreaker of the season was the shocking death of Amanda (Sonja Sohn) which, obviously, will have major repercussions.

Season 5 will need to deal with the ramifications of all these life-changing incidents and take us on more journeys as Amanda’s replacement at the GBI is revealed, we find out what kind of mother Angie will be, and how Will will cope with all the changes in his life, which will be hard for someone who resists change.

Here is everything we know so far about Will Trent Season 5.

Unless ABC does some major restructuring, Will Trent will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes will air next day on Hulu.

Is there a trailer for Will Trent Season 5?

There is no trailer as yet for Season 5 of Will Trent, as it hasn’t actually filmed yet. When the trailer for the new season is released, we’ll post it immediately. Keep checking back.

Who’s in the Will Trent cast for Season 5?

While not confirmed, it is likely that the following will all be returning:

Ramón Rodriguez as Will Trent

Will, whose trademark is 3-piece suits, continues to be assigned some of the GBI’s most difficult cases because he can read a crime scene like no one else, a skill he has learned to help cope with his dyslexia after being abandoned at birth and raised in the harshness of Atlanta’s foster care system. But Will has loosened up a bit since we first saw him in Season 1. He now owns his dyslexia and has programs to help him with workarounds. In Season 5, expect Will to be the walking wounded with the death of his mentor Amanda and the guilt he feels from his uncle having been kidnapped.

Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski

Like Will, Angie was raised in the foster care system and like him, she is in law enforcement, but she’s a member of the Atlanta Police Department. Angie was her own worst enemy when it comes to her personal life, but in Season 4, she found love with Dr. Seth McDale and gave birth to a baby girl named Edie.

Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell

Faith is a former member of the Atlanta Police Department, who was brought over to the GBI by her godmother Amanda Wagner to work with Will. She and Will got off to a rocky start, but they have found a groove that enables them to have one of the highest solve rates.

Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood

Ormewood is a veteran detective and Angie’s partner on the APD Homicide division. He is the father of two, who has survived a brain tumor and has become an integral part of Will’s work family.

Kevin Daniels as Franklin Wilks

Wilks began the series in a recurring role as a detective with the APD Homicide division, but also Angie’s sober sponsor. He has brought some of the best comedy scenes to the series.

Bluebell as BettyWill Trent season 4 intense death plot

Betty is the Chihuahua that Will adopted in the pilot episode because he couldn’t abandon her as he had been abandoned as a baby, and she continues to be the beating heart of the show.

RECURRING CHARACTERS

Cora Lu Tran as Nico

Cora Lu Tran will be back as Nico, Betty’s dogwalker who lives in Will’s garage.

Will Yul Vaquez return for Season 5 of Will Trent?

Vasquez is very likely to pop up during the season, as his Sheriff Caleb character has been forging a bond as Will’s biological father.

Who is leaving Will Trent in Season 5?

Sonja Sohn, who played GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner, was killed off in Season 4, Episode 15, “The Blank Expanse of Nothing,” in a shocking twist.

She posted on Instagram (see the full video below), “Once you get the pink slip, it’s just a job. I got a job like you got a job. It’s just a job. Actors are really low people on the totem pole when it comes down to the big structure. When you get a pink slip, you don’t ask about it. You just say goodbye.”

Also leaving is Dr. Seth McDale (Scott Foley), who died as the result of a car crash on the way to the hospital. The car he and Angie were in was T-boned and, while Seth initially appeared to be okay, it later turned out that he had massive internal bleeding. So, he left his daughter, a girl named Edie, without a father, and Angie spiraled into a depression.

As for why two deaths in one season on the hit series, executive producer Liz Heldens told TV Insider, “Going into Season 5, it just really felt like we needed a reset and some new energy, and some new dynamics… These were really hard and emotional decisions for the writers. There was a lot of back and forth in the room, but, eventually, we did what we thought was best for the future of the show. But yeah, both of them are heartbreakers for sure.”

Are there any spoilers for Season 5 of Will Trent?

The show will have to officially replace Amanda, which will drastically change the dynamic of the GBI office, which isn’t exactly a spoiler. But who that replacement will be will have a big effect on Will and Faith, both of whom were at the GBI because of Amanda.

It also remains to be seen what type of mother Angie will turn out to be and how big a roll Will play in the baby’s life now that her father is dead.
