As anticipation builds for the next instalment, here’s everything we know about the third season of Netflix’s Wednesday.
Who’d have thought a series about a kooky, macabre teenager would become Netflix’s most-viewed English-language series of all time? And yet, that’s exactly what season one of Wednesday remains to this day. Jenna Ortega’s take on the world’s most miserable antihero is so captivating, so delicious, that we all gobbled up the first two seasons with gusto – and are now impatiently waiting on season three.
After all, we’ve known it’s been on the cards for some time – a third season was confirmed before season two even hit our screens, proving just what a sure bet Netflix knows the show to be.
So, what exactly can we expect from the next chapter? Here’s everything we know about Wednesday season three so far…
What will happen in Wednesday season 3?
Spoilers for season two of Wednesday lie ahead
At the end of the second season, we saw Enid transform into her werewolf self, but because it happened on the night of a full moon, she’s now stuck in this form. She ran away somewhere north – whether to hide or to find a cure, we’re not yet sure.
Wednesday hopped aboard Uncle Fester’s motorcycle sidecar on a mission to find Enid, and on the way, we saw her regain her psychic powers. Here’s where it gets interesting: what she saw gave us a big clue as to what we can expect from season three. In her vision, Wednesday saw her aunt Ophelia locked in ‘Grandmama’ Hester Frump’s basement, scrawling the words ‘Wednesday must die’ on the wall in what looks to be blood. Cheery stuff.
All other plot details are being kept under wraps for now; however, with filming now underway for season three, another juicy tidbit of information was revealed when a behind-the-scenes photo was released that shows Wednesday in front of the Eiffel Tower. So it looks like our little storm cloud is heading to Paris for at least some of season three. Thing is there too, but is it a school trip? A one-woman quest of her own? We don’t know yet.
According to Wednesday co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough, the new season will dig deeper into the characters and expand the world of Nevermore, while co-creator and co-showrunner Miles Millar added that we’ll be learning more family secrets.
Who will star in Wednesday season 3?
All your favourites – including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, Emma Myers and Billie Piper – are returning, and they’re being joined by some new faces, too. Perhaps the most exciting cast addition of all is Winona Ryder. No stranger to the world of Tim Burton, Ryder will be taking on a new character called Tabitha. Alongside her, Eva Green (another longtime Burton collaborator) has been cast as Morticia Addams’ sister and Wednesday’s aunt, Ophelia. Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, James Lance, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer round out the cast.
When can we watch Wednesday season 3?
A release date hasn’t been announced just yet, but with filming currently underway, we can probably predict a late 2026 or (more likely) early 2027 release. But watch this space for more details as we get them.
